About the Role
Base Location: Leeds, Perth, Glasgow - other locations can also be consideredSalary: £47,600 - £71,600 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

As Human Factors Specialist you'll be considered a subject matter expert in Human Factors and its potential impact on Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) and will champion a culture of Human Factors excellence within SSE Thermal Engineering and Asset Management.You will be responsible for ensuring Human Factors best practice is implemented across a pipeline of projects developing low carbon Thermal and Hydrogen power assets.
In addition, as a member of the Thermal Asset Management team you will be expected to give support and assistance to activities associated with the Asset Management System.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide subject matter expertise regarding Human Factors, developing Project Human Factors Implementation Plans supporting application of our suite of engineering and design standards throughout Project Lifecycles.
- Chair monthly steering group held with senior leaders in the business to overview Human Factors framework and update on any changes to legislation / best practices, review risk and opportunities, training for Human Factors within the business unit and also discuss continuous improvement opportunities.
- Provide technical support to all members of the Thermal Asset Management and Engineering team (TEAM) on all aspects of Human Factors including the use of specific Human Factors tools.
- Development of Human Factors Implementation Plans. Supporting Project SHE reviews and providing guidance in relation to the process safety risks subject to SHE assurance activities including reviewing actions.
- Provide general Risk and Process Safety support as part of the Risk Function within the Thermal Asset Management team.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Demonstrable experience in Human Factors, Process Safety, SHE, Hazard study facilitation, preferably in a power generation related industry.
- A degree level qualification or equivalent, preferably in a process safety engineering discipline, or similar, equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
- Knowledge of best engineering practices, relevant codes, standards and legislation and a solid understanding of risk assessment techniques in relation to process safety critical plant and processes.
- An understanding of, and preferably a working knowledge of current Human Factors tools for Hierarchical Task Analysis, Human Reliability Assessments, Isolation and Immobilisation and Alarm Handling Studies. It would also be advantageous to be working towards, or hold, a professional chartered status in Ergonomics and Human Factors (or another Process Safety related discipline).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to influence, engage and facilitate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
