Leadership, management and strategic planning of the Ultrasound department (Imaging section, non-obstetrics)

Management and leadership of a team of 19 sonographers (plus a small team of bank sonographers)

Managing capacity, demand and waiting lists of all non-obstetric ultrasound referrals, including out-patients, in-patients and on-demand clinic referrals for a wide range of ultrasound sub-specialities including abdominal, gynaecology, vascular, MSK, head and neck, FNA/Biospy/cannula insertion.

Management of ultrasound capacity and demand at Community Diagnostic Centres, meeting activity targets, and future planning

Working collaboratively with Radiologists, Imaging Assistant team, Imaging Appointments team, Medics and all referring departments. / locations.

DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS

In-Patient Management (Plus SDEC, SAU, TIA)

Rota check

Weekend sessions planning– AfC and extra

Liaising with Obs Lead Sonographer as required

Communicating with Bank Sonographers

Day-to-day troubleshooting of issues in ultrasound

Day-to-day troubleshooting for pathways / bookings teams

Feedback of information to all sonographers – substantive and bank

Firefighting / trouble-shooting / incident management / conflict resolution

Ordering equipment / supplies – Unit4

Liaising with GIA coordinator

Monitoring vetting / requests waiting to be booked.

Receive, justify and prioritise ultrasound referrals based on clinicalinformation provided, meeting target and contract agreements within timeframes

Develop initiatives to expand or refine the ultrasound service, assessing service user requirements and identifying opportunities for service development

Responsible for clinical audit within ultrasound, documenting and disseminating findings with staff to facilitate reflective learning and support a culture of continuous improvement

Responsible for quality assurance, ensuring compliance with all applicable national and local standards and guidelines

Liaise with members of the multidisciplinary team in all matters relating to patient management and care. Be available to discuss with referrers or patients, questions or concerns and provide professional advice regarding ultrasound when applicable

Participate in meetings on or offsite regarding ultrasound departmental issues and to deputise for the Head of Imaging at meetings when require

Inform and support the Head of Imaging in the management of clinical incidents and complaints related to ultrasound and ensure lessons learned are shared and implemented within the ultrasound team

Maintain a close working relationship with Universities providing sonographer training. Maintain CRH ultrasound department as a centre of excellence providing clinical placements as appropriate for trainee sonographers

Provide a consistent high standard of care and attention to patients at all times thus maintaining the quality standards of the Trust.

Deputising for the Head of Imaging when appropriate.

Dealing with clinical governance, incident reports and complaints.
