Personal Assistant
A kind and patient personal assistant is required to support a sixteen-year-old boy with complex needs who lives near Truro.
He has severe mental impairment and mild physical difficulties and is looking for someone with whom he can build a positive relationship. The role involves a combination of 1:1 support and working alongside his family during days out. Some personal care will also be required.
A personal assistant will enable him to access community-based activities that are otherwise difficult to attend with the support of just one adult.
He enjoys dressing up and role-playing, loves trains and water, and attends an accessible dance club. He would particularly love someone who could take him on train journeys and swimming trips.
An average of 10 hours per week is available, with flexibility. Ideally, support would be provided for two hours on Tuesday after school, with most of the remaining hours on Sunday. Additional hours may be offered during school holidays.
Hourly rate starts at £12.50 per hour plus mileage.
Experience working with children and young people with SEND is essential, and knowledge of Makaton would be desirable.
The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.
