As such, we are looking for dynamic geriatricians who are passionate about innovation and will work well within a progressive team of 16 Geriatricians. While the Department of Older People’s Medicine has a strong emphasis on managing frailty across our wards, clinics, day units and community services, we are also implementing a new frailty-based strategy which includes a focus on community and ‘front door’ frailty, admission avoidance and comprehensive geriatric assessment out of hospital.
We would envisage that the post holder will play a key role in shaping new ways of working, by taking a key role in front of house frailty service developments, or by supporting other aspects of departmental sub-specialty service delivery and development.
Job Purpose:
The delivery of clinical services within Older People’s Medicine in-patient, day unit, out-patient and community-based services. Additional sessions to support a sub-speciality interest, and teaching and research opportunities are likely to be available, appropriately job planned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This post will be based between Freeman Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The post holder will be responsible for inpatient, day unit, out-patient and community-based care of older people including acute and rehabilitation patients, with sub-speciality responsibilities according to experience, interest and Trust requirements.The post holder will also contribute to the non-resident Older People’s Medicine on-call rota.

Clinical:
- Promote leadership, quality improvement and innovative service delivery by contributing to the organisation and running of the Older People’s Medicine services, working in collaboration with colleagues
- Assist the Medicine Directorate, Manager and Clinical Director in the timely investigation of complaints – and translating these into opportunities for service improvement
- Participate in all aspects of Clinical Governance, making a significant contribution to multidisciplinary audit and risk management activities
