Duties of a Design Technology Teacher:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Design & Technology lessons in line with the national curriculum.
  • Teach a range of D&T disciplines, including product design, resistant materials, graphics, and/or food technology (depending on expertise).
  • Encourage students to develop practical skills, creativity, and technical knowledge.
  • Assess and track student progress, providing constructive feedback.
  • Ensure the safe and effective use of tools, equipment, and machinery in the workshop.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Contribute to extracurricular activities, clubs, and school events related to D&T.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the D&T curriculum and resources.

Ideal Design Technology Teacher:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • A degree in Design & Technology, Engineering, or a related subject
  • Experience teaching D&T at [primary/secondary] level (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong knowledge of practical design and manufacturing techniques
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A passion for creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children as a Design Technology Teacher
