Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Manager to join a thriving commercial team within a growing infrastructure delivery business The ideal candidate will have a strong background in contractor or consultancy environments-preferably within the UK transport infrastructure sector-and a deep understanding of public procurement processes You will play a key role in ensuring commercially sound project delivery balancing risk and reward while supporting long-term programme goals Role Summary

Reporting directly to the Commercial Director the successful applicant will take ownership of commercial strategy and performance across a number of high-value infrastructure projects You ll be part of a dedicated team working on frameworks and alliances across a wide range of complex delivery environments This position offers the chance to shape and influence a dynamic programme of works with project values typically ranging from 15 million to 100 million The role includes involvement in frameworks across England and Northern Ireland delivering critical upgrades and systems renewals This opportunity is ideal for a commercially driven individual who enjoys fostering strong client relationships identifying growth opportunities and driving high-performance outcomes across multiple contracts About the Division

Operating as a self-contained business unit within a larger organisation the infrastructure systems team delivers full design and build services primarily across railway systems This includes the full project lifecycle from concept through to testing and commissioning with a strong emphasis on acting as Principal Contractor on major UK programmes Flexible Working

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients delivery partners and subcontractors to foster collaborative working environments
  • Lead on commercial matters throughout the project lifecycle including contract negotiation risk management and change control
  • Ensure robust administration of contracts and adherence to commercial governance procedures
  • Support claims resolution and provide expert guidance on dispute management
  • Review and negotiate contract terms to protect the commercial interests of the business
  • Assist with strategic bids including engagement in pre-contract negotiations
  • Champion internal governance compliance and support key stage gate reviews
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to junior commercial team members contributing to their development and capability growth
  • Assist with the development of commercial tools guidance documents and training programmes
Candidate Profile - Degree qualified in a relevant discipline and or holding a recognised professional membership (e g RICS CICES)
  • Demonstrable commercial experience in contractor or consultancy settings
  • Expertise in standard forms of contract particularly the NEC suite (NEC4 experience advantageous)
  • Strong client-facing capabilities with a collaborative solutions-focused approach
  • Industry experience in the rail sector is desirable though related infrastructure backgrounds will be considered
  • Excellent communication leadership and negotiation skills
  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a team
  • Competent with relevant digital tools and systems
