Teacher of Business and Economics
Durham Sixth Form Centre is seeking an exceptional Business and Economics Teacher to join our outstanding post‑16 provision. This appointment follows the planned departure of a valued colleague and represents a rare opportunity to join a nationally high‑performing sixth form with a reputation for academic rigour, progression and expert subject teaching.
You will teach A Level Business (EDUQAS) and CTEC Business (OCR) to highly motivated 16–19 students. For candidates with the relevant expertise or ambition, there is also the opportunity to contribute to our A Level Economics (Edexcel) provision, supporting a coherent and ambitious Business and Economics curriculum.
Located in the heart of Durham, and within easy commuting distance of Newcastle and Sunderland, the Centre operates as a “mini‑university”, serving around 1,800 students from across the North East.

We are looking for someone who:
- Is an outstanding Level 3 practitioner with a proven track record of securing excellent outcomes in post-16 (we also welcome applications from ambitious teachers ready for their first specialist post).
- Possesses deep subject expertise, with the ability to explain complex financial statements, macroeconomic principles and business models with clarity and enthusiasm.
- Brings a passion for commercial discourse that motivates learners to engage with diverse viewpoints on corporate social responsibility and economic policy.
- Is committed to collaborative, evidence-informed teaching, working within the Human Sciences Faculty to trial new strategies for improving evaluative writing and quantitative skills.
- Understands how to build student confidence, preparing them for high-level progression into Business Management, Finance, Economics and elite degree apprenticeships.
