Applications are warmly invited for one full-time (10PA) Locum Consultant General Paediatrician post.

The Trust provides regional facilities for the whole of Coventry and Warwickshire with a population of approximately 1 million. The Trust is one of the largest Trusts in the UK and is committed to the development of a high quality paediatric service.

University Hospital is the main clinical teaching hospital for Warwick University Medical School. This is an extremely well equipped 1200 bed teaching hospital, containing all medical and surgical specialities and is a designated adult major trauma centre including a helicopter emergency service.

The successful candidate will join a forward-thinking and dynamic team of fourteen paediatricians. The department has a designated Children’s Emergency Department which sees over 35,000 attendances per year, 3 inpatient paediatric wards with over 4,500 admissions per year, a level 2 paediatric intensive care unit with 8 beds, a medical day unit facility and designated outpatient departments at both Walsgrave and Rugby Saint Cross hospitals.

The out patient departments deliver over 12,000 appointments.

The successful postholder will work on the general paediatric service and on-call rotas and do one general and one allergy clinic weekly.

Applicants must be on the GMC specialist register and available to start the post as soon as possible.

Main duties of the job

Key elements of the post include:

  • Expertise in general paediatrics, acute and out-patient based.
  • Ability to deliver a Consultant of the Week service on the children’s inpatient unit and Children’s Emergency Department, 4 times in 12 months.
  • To participate in the general paediatric acute on call 1 in 6 weekends and 1 in 12 weekdays.
  • General Paediatric clinics and ward rounds.
  • Clinical and educational supervision of paediatric trainees.
  • Enthusiasm and ability to participate in the delivery of medical education and audit within the department.
  • Weekly allergy clinic.
