SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Luton, Bedfordshire

Day Rate: £85 - £90
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a well-established school in Luton. The successful candidate to join the education and training sector will play a key role in supporting children with SEMH needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide tailored support to pupils with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom.
- Implement personalised learning plans and behaviour strategies.
- Support the emotional and social development of students, promoting positive behaviour.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide holistic support.
- Monitor student progress, offering feedback and adapting support as needed.
- Help to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
Requirements of a Luton SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting challenging behaviour.
- Ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
- Experience working within an educational setting, ideally in a primary or secondary school.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection protocols.
- Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience.
Desirable:
- Experience with de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies.
- Knowledge of other special educational needs such as Autism, ADHD, or Speech and Language difficulties.
- First Aid training or Team Teach qualification (desirable but not essential).
- Local Commute to Luton
