You will support the Deputy and Divisional Head of Finance in providing a comprehensive finance business partnering role to the directorates within the division, including business case development, support around budget setting and financial reporting, developing plans for elective recovery and efficiency programmes, as well as providing value through financial advice and challenge You will build strong relationships with a Clinical Directorate team to help them develop and realise their strategic aims

Main duties of the job

The Finance Business partner will support the Deputy and Divisional Head of Finance to ensure that monthly budget monitoring reports are robust and take accurate account of all appropriate accruals within the agreed timetable, to plan and co-ordinate development of the annual budget for the division and prepare and present financial reports, forecasts, costings, and business cases.

The post holder is expected to work as part of a cohesive team and when necessary, may take lead responsibility for issues outside of their immediate sphere of responsibility.

The Finance Business partner will work closely with the Deputy and Head of Divisional Finance and fellow Finance Business Partners within the Divisional finance team to ensure that the finance function makes an influential contribution to the Division’s managerial and business objectives.

The post holder will develop close and collaborative working relationships with key leads within their directorate and fellow finance colleagues in corporate finance to ensure the directorate finance team’s operations are consistent with the Trust’s financial framework and in managing the implementation of financial controls and processes and will be responsible for the effective and accurate production of financial reporting and analysis.

They will help to deputise for the Deputy Head of Divisional Finance when required.

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate technical data in a clear and concise manner, using a variety of media.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Able to build relationships of trust with external and internal stakeholders

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to present analysis and interpretation of financial and non-financial information.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Able to demonstrate rigour and judgement in presenting technical issues to managers, presenting options and assessing financial decisions and financial risk.
  • Ability to review processes & systems within area of influence and to advise on changes or improvements.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to present analysis and interpretation of financial and non-financial information in an NHS acute provider context.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a financial management position, ideally within the NHS.
  • Experience of setting income & expenditure budgets and of financial forecasting
  • Experience of carrying out in-depth analyses of variances, reporting on these and setting out options for corrective action
  • Experience of advising finance & non-finance managers on financial & budgetary matters
  • Able to design spreadsheets & databases for analysing and presenting information.
  • Experience of providing financial advice and guidance for business cases.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS financial management procedures and processes, ideally in an NHS acute provider organisation.
  • Knowledge of NHS financial information systems.
  • Knowledge of NHS acute provider costing techniques and systems.
  • Knowledge of NHS Commissioning arrangements, in particular as they relate to complex acute providers

  • Have you worked for the NHS in the last five years?

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • CCAB finalist or a minimum of two years’ experience working in financial management, ideally in an NHS context.

  • Able to plan projects which impact multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Able to deliver to tight deadlines with high quality outcomes.
  • Able to contribute towards medium term financial planning goals.
  • Ability to build relationships, and operate effectively, across distinctly different teams and to manage potential conflicts arising from the different goals & objectives those teams may be pursuing.
  • Ability to delegate work and to monitor progress to ensure it is carried out effectively & efficiently
