  • Clinical Tutor/Senior Clinical Psychologist Band: 8a Professionally accountable to: Director of Clinical Practice, DClinPsy programme Reports to: Senior Clinical Tutor/Director of Clinical Practice and Unit Director Responsible for:Line management of a group of trainee clinical psychologists on the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology programme (Band 6). Responsible for facilitation and monitoring of placements and the development of trainees, contributing to selection, recruitment and placement allocation and liaison with placement supervisors. Liaises with: members of the programme team, trainee clinical psychologists,practitioners/supervisors within the NHS and other organisations, staff on other training programmes and other agencies involved in training.

Job Purpose To contribute to the organisation, monitoring and development of defined areas of the clinical practice and employment aspects of training for trainees on the Sheffield Doctor of Clinical Psychology training programme by:(i) providing tutoring and line management to a group of trainee clinical psychologists and facilitating their development as practitioners.(ii) sharing responsibility for specific aspects of the overall development and provision of the course and undertaking and providing highly specialist supervision, training and development activities as a major job requirement.

Utilising research skills for audit, policy development and research as needed.(iii) Taking sole professional responsibility and exercising autonomous professional and clinical judgement within the overall framework of Trust, HCPC and BPS policies/guidelines/standards.

Principal Duties Clinical/utilising clinical skills Responsible for arranging, monitoring and facilitating clinical placements for aspecific cohort of Trainee Clinical Psychologists in conjunction with the Director of Clinical Practice and clinical tutors at the University of Sheffield, and clinical tutors on other clinical psychology training programmes.

Responsible for monitoring the standard and quality of clinical placements according to specified guidelines and to take mediating and corrective action as necessary and ensure due process for Trainee Clinical Psychologists.
Responsible for monitoring the well-being of a specific group of Trainee Clinical Psychologists (on clinical placement and at university) and to share responsibility for action or referral to other services (e.g.
Occupational Health, staff support services) where appropriate.
Responsible for organising individualised training plans for a number of Trainee Clinical Psychologists according to trainee need and availability of placement resource.
Responsible for contributing specialist knowledge and consultancy to programme development.
Responsible for providing guidance, tutoring and feedback for University course work based on clinical activity.

Teaching, Training and Supervision To receive regular clinical professional supervision in accordance with professional practice (HCPC), BPS and Trust guidelines To provide guidance and feedback on trainees written work as part of their assessed course work requirements; to mark course work assignments and provide written and verbal feedback on these.

To provide highly specialist teaching and training for DClin Psy trainees as required To act as internal examiner in the evaluation and assessment of trainee competence development including clinical competence, academic achievement, research skills and professional behaviour.

To share responsibility with clinical tutors and Director of Clinical Practice for the ongoing professional development, training and support of qualified clinical supervisors.
Management, Recruitment, Policy, Organisational and Service Development To provide line management to specified group of trainees in line with Trust and University policies and procedures.
To ensure that trainees comply with the administrative procedures and contractual requirements set out by the training programme.
To conduct trainee annual reviews, together with the relevant academic tutor.
To provide specialist supervision and consultancy as identified to support practice placements.
To contribute directly and significantly to the selection, interviewing and recruitment processes for the University of Sheffield DClinPsy programme.

To contribute to the joint planning and organisation of specialised aspects of the Clinical Psychology training programme in consultation with all stakeholders, including the achievement of long-term strategic objectives in a constantly changing context involving the NHS and the University.

To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of aspects of the programme through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.
To contribute to the development and implementation of specific policies pertaining to the DClinPsy training course in consultation with colleagues and the Unit Director and Director of Clinical Practice.
To take a role in working parties and local and national development groups involved in the planning and development of policies and developments in training and propose changes as appropriate.
To advise senior management on aspects of the programme where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.
Responsible for managing and communicating complex, sensitive and potentially contentious information across different organisations (e.g.
NHS/University).

To make professional judgements regarding interpretation of policy involving the management of highly complex information and systems and the integration of complex information from a variety of different sources to achieve the best possible outcome from a range of considered options (e.g.

liaison with other services, courses, supervisors).

Responsible for monitoring own workload flexibly and with significant professional autonomy in accordance with Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust and University of Sheffield requirements, and for organising and prioritising own workload across multiple roles and responsibilities.

Research and Service Evaluation To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in own professional work and the work of others professionals, and in the service of developing the DClinPsy programme.

To make a regular contribution to informal and formal research developmentactivities (e.g.
clinical and placement audit).
Skilled in the autonomous usage of word processing and PowerPoint and other software in relation to teaching, training and research activities.

General Requirements To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post-holders professional manager(s).

To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in psychology/psychological therapy by continuing to develop the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal, and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology/psychological therapy and related disciplines.

To maintain the highest standards of record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the HCPC, BPS and Trust policies and procedures.

To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues.
To participate fully in supporting the activities of the Clinical Psychology Unit and profession within the Trust, including attending relevant meetings and undertaking relevant duties.
To participates regularly in the work of the relevant Regional and University committees.
Contributes to the establishment and maintenance of effective communication systems between supervisors and stakeholders in the training course.
Undertakes travel as necessary to support trainees and their supervisors onplacement, and to attend and contribute to local and national committees related to training in clinical psychology.

Undertakes other role responsibilities that may be agreed with the Director of Clinical Practice in relation to the continuing development of the programme To maintain professional registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council Job Description Review This is not an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities and in discussion with the manager, Professional Lead and/or Director of PS the post holder may be required to undertake other duties which fall within the Banding of the post.
