About the role

Balfour Beatty are looking for a Fire and Safety Coordinator to join our Major Projects Team at Hinkley Point C.

At Hinkley Point C we're building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in Britain providing zero-carbon electricity for around six million homes.

The Fire and Safety coordinator will contribute to the writing and updating of the Fire Risk Assessment and incorporate mitigation measures from the Fire Risk Assessment within fire plans, and emergency arrangements on site.

What you'll be doing

As a Fire and Safety Coordinator, you will:

  • Work with the fire safety manger to ensure all emergency arrangements
are regularly reviewed, at least quarterly and any updates updated and
communicated to the site.
  • Appoint Fire Wardens commensurate with the risk control measures identified within the Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Safety Plan.
  • Comply with HSE rules and regulations
  • Ensure all company fire procedures, precautions, fire safety standards and site plan are understood and complied with by all on site.
  • Coordinate weekly checks of fire equipment, detection and alarm systems are carried out by appointed Fire Wardens / Marshals and collate all the inspection reports. (Facilities log book)
  • Check that all escape routes, fire & rescue service access, fire-fighting facilities, work areas are regularly inspected by appointed Fire Marshal /Wardens.
  • Monitor compliance with site safety plan.
  • Coordinate maintenance of fire equipment and keep records.
  • Conduct weekly fire alarm tests, weekly site fire arrangement checks and record as per the BB weekly fire check sheet and Insight.
  • Assist Fire Safety Manager to conduct fire drills.
  • Monitor arrangements and procedure for calling fire & rescue service.
  • Check all fire exits and routes must always remain free from obstruction and available. It is crucial that final exits are opened to check they are not blocked from the outside.
  • Check all fire/alarm points are visible, unobstructed and have an emergency fire action notice adjacent to them.
  • Check all Fire extinguishers are in their correct place, serviced and
correctly tagged.
  • Check all installed tunnel fire main outlets and shower curtains are

tested, inspected, and recorded.

Who we're looking for

Essential:

  • Hold a valid CSCS card.
  • Strong up to date technical knowledge of fire safety.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with team members under time pressure.
