The Financial Strategy team at NNUH is responsible for the development of sustainable financial plans, strategic capital planning, and monitoring of performance against the Trust’s financial strategy. The Finance Business Partner – Strategic Investment is an essential part of the team, helping to support and advise on all financial matters.

Main duties of the job

As part of a small team, the Finance Business Partner for Strategic Investment will ensure that all capital matters are dealt with promptly and in accordance with all relevant guidance and statutory obligations. The post holder will also advise on highly complex issues and provide corporate reports/strategic financial and business planning advice.

The post holder will assist and support the Chief Finance Officer and the Finance Senior Management Team in the provision of an efficient and pro-active strategic finance function.

Provide financial and management information to the Divisions and Corporate departments relating to all aspects of the capital programme, including attending monthly meetings with scheme leads where required to ensure both accuracy and understanding of the financial information issued.

Provide accurate and reliable information to facilitate the timely submission of NHS financial returns for the Trust as a whole.

Provide expert financial advice and support to the Divisions and Corporate departments in relation to capital including leases. Be integrated within the project teams where required as Finance Business Partner to provide strategic financial guidance and advice.

Management of the Trust’s business case process, including review of relevant meeting agendas, ensuring that the Trust’s business case tracker is kept up to date and that all business cases follow the correct governance process.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Provide financial and management information to the Divisions and Corporate departments relating to all aspects of the capital programme, including attending monthly meetings with scheme leads where required to ensure both accuracy and understanding of the financial information issued.
  • Provide accurate and reliable information to facilitate the timely submission of NHS financial returns for the Trust as a whole.
  • Provide expert financial advice and support to the Divisions and Corporate departments in relation to capital including leases. Be integrated within the project teams where required as Finance Business Partner to provide strategic financial guidance and advice.
  • Produce timely and accurate month end reporting for the Trust’s capital programme and variance analysis, and ensure variances are investigated thoroughly in order to provide the Deputy Director of Finance for Financial Strategy and Planning with comprehensive information to allow the budgetary position to be effectively managed and understood.
  • Ensure all accounting records, systems and files are accurately maintained.
  • Responsible for introducing, adapting, and improving systems in areas of responsibility and influence, for use by others.
  • Attend project meetings when required to present the financial performance of the Trust’s capital programme, and to contribute more widely to the business of the Trust, Division or Directorate.
  • Develop, implement and update financial policies and procedures and contributes to the broadening of financial awareness within the capital programme and across the Trust.
  • Manage staff, as necessary, ensuring workload is appropriately balanced, that staff are adequately trained to perform their duties, that work is reviewed in order to ensure deadlines are met and high-quality standards are maintained.
  • Undertake performance review and appraisal of staff as necessary.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full Professional Accountancy Qualification - membership of a CCAB professional body with extensive post-graduate experience and extensive experience in management role

Experience

  • Superior knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of capital budgetary control processes and methodologies

  • Experience in developing business cases of varying investment sizes

Travelling to work

Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.

We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.

The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.

The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service.

We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.

The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.

DBS
