An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to work within the Birmingham Neurological Rehabilitation team. The purpose of the post is to deliver specialist assessment and treatment for patients who have a neurological condition, who require rehabilitation following diagnosis or recent neurological event
The successful candidate will have a wide range of clinical experience across the stroke and neuro care pathway and an understanding of collaborative working across multiple agencies. They will have a passion for delivering pathways of care that meet both high clinical standards and the needs of individual patients and their families and carers.
In return, you will be working closely with existing stroke and neuro services and social care provision, have the support of a multidisciplinary team and have access to clinical supervision and peer support.
Main duties of the job
To provide a specialist occupational therapy to patients recently diagnosed with a stroke or neurological condition in a range of community settings using developed specialist practice underpinned by theoretical knowledge.
To be a specialist resource of information for health and social care staff, patients, families, carers and external agencies who may require advice, support and guidance in the management of stroke and neurological conditions.
To transfer individual patients’ ongoing care to other agencies as appropriate and ensure that the service provided is conducted in a professional, efficient and effective way.
To meet the service specification objectives and key performance indicators as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Provide a comprehensive specialist assessment of patients who are referred to the service, often with complex presentations, in a holistic manner using investigative and analytical skills.
Apply advanced clinical reasoning to devise effective rehabilitation treatment plans seeking guidance from the senior occupational therapist where applicable.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide a comprehensive specialist assessment of patients who are referred to the service, often with complex presentations, in a holistic manner using investigative and analytical skills.
Apply advanced clinical reasoning to devise effective rehabilitation treatment plans seeking guidance from the senior occupational therapist where applicable.
Delegate and evaluate treatment programmes to the appropriate team members/rehabilitation assistants.
Implement effective, evidence-based treatment using a variety of treatment approaches and evaluation of treatment using standardised outcome measures.
Record all activity and patient documentation on the RiO system using a mobile laptop device.
Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your professional activities, including working within codes of practice and professional guidelines.
Demonstrate physical ability to carry out occupational therapy assessment and interventions, including highly developed occupational therapy techniques and therapeutic handling.
Respond to unpredictable work patterns where there is a requirement for the post holder to concentrate at high levels for frequent periods throughout the shift, both during patient contact and when dealing with other elements of the role.
Be responsible as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant clinical caseload.
Manage and prioritise caseload independently.
Provide clinical supervision and facilitate reflective practice to junior team members and students.
Support band three and four rehabilitation assistants, apprentices and students with caseload allocation and management.

Essential
Essential criteria- Has a valid UK driving licence
- Has access to a car in the UK
Essential/Desirable
Essential criteria- Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
- Relevant experience in a variety of clinical areas and settings. Relevant experience of working in stroke and neurological care.
- Provides support and clinical supervision to more junior team members.
- Experience of working in the community setting

Essential criteria- Utilises and interprets standardised outcome measures relevant to stroke/neuro with support from Band 7 where necessary
- Demonstrates evidence of recent CPD and an ability to reflect on experiences
