Location: Based at Royal Hampshire County Hospital and covering Hampshire Hospital Foundation Trust’s patch for community (Basingstoke, Andover and Winchester).

Role Description:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated Speech & Language Therapist who is keen to extend their clinical skills in stroke. This post is based at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and is rotational covering our acute Stroke Unit and Early Supported Discharge Team, providing experience in inpatient and community settings.

The Hampshire Hospitals stroke service includes a 36-bed in-patient Stroke Unit and Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team in the community. You will have a chance to work in both services as part of this rotational post, joining a team of stroke-specialist speech and language therapists and assistants.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Speech and Language Therapist, HCPC and RSCLT registered
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of relevant CPD activities
  • Evidence of stroke-related CPD activities

Other

Essential criteria
  • Able to make efficient transport arrangements in order to visit patients in their own homes in a rural environment

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assess and manage classical cases of swallowing disorder with minimal support
  • Experience of working in acute hospital setting
  • Experience of working with a range of adult speech and language therapy-related disorders
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of clinical supervision of students and others
  • Experience of delivering training to others

Skills and Ability

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of good reflective practice
  • Evidence of prioritisation skills
  • Good written communication skills
  • Evidence of working well in an MDT
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of national and local strategies, policies and procedures
