We are excited to offer this opportunity to work with in our friendly and supportive team at Farnham Road Hospital.

In this vital role, you will assist in all areas of care in accordance with agreed care plans and procedures to enable people using our services to meet their individual needs. You will be part of the nursing team working hands-on in a hospital environment.

Farnham Road Hospital has 60 beds spread over 4 wards, to support the needs of working age adults. This role is specifically for the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) – Rowan Ward.

The ward has won international recognition for its dedicated work to least restrictive options for patients coming to PICU and works to the National Association of Psychiatric Intensive care ( NAPICU) guidelines.

This is a fantastic opportunity for those interested to work as a Senior Health Care Support Worker Assistant for our Trust. There are many career development programmes such as the Nursing Associate and Apprenticeship training available for our staff.

Main duties of the job

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct, record, and report observations, and ensure care plans are implemented and quality standards achieved.
  • Monitor the wellbeing of people using our services.
  • Actively engage people using our services, particularly those on higher level of observations and with greater care needs, in therapeutic conversation and activities.
  • Undertake physical health checks, i.e. B/P, Temperature, Respiration, CPR and use of Defibrillator
  • Undertake ECG, and bloods as and when required.
  • Encourage and support individuals to take part in activities suited to their particular needs and interests.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Senior Healthcare Support Worker, you will assist in the provision of high quality care to patients and their families under the direction and supervision of the Multi-disciplinary Team. You will demonstrate a range of nursing skills to meet the needs of patients whilst promoting dignity, privacy and respect.

You will also provide a range of healthcare and non-nursing duties, ensuring an efficient and effective service to the ward/department at all times.

Qualifications Required

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 qualification in health and social care or related topic OR Level 2 qualification in health and social care or related topic plus 1 year in a paid care role OR Extensive experience in a paid care role
  • Completed Care Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Inpatient PICU experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in a patient facing role within a mental health setting
  • System 1 experience and medical documentation to a good standard
