An exciting opportunity to work as a Consultant Radiologist in the Department of Radiology has become available as a result of workforce expansion. The appointee will work within the Radiology Department of Birmingham Women’s Hospital joining an existing establishment of 3 diagnostic consultant radiologists.This is a substantive full-time 10 PA post.
Main duties of the job
The post
The successful applicant should be trained in all aspects of diagnostic Gynaecological and Neonatal radiology. The successful applicant would be expected to participate in the multi-disciplinary meetings with existing consultant radiologists.The sub-specialist nature of the role is such that the successful candidate will need a broad knowledge base, and will be able to use various modalities in undertaking their role. Their job plan will reflect this but will also try to accommodate specialist interests, mindful of the existing needs within the department.
The successful applicant must be prepared to work flexibly; whilst this is an appointment primarily for Birmingham Women’s Hospital, there may be opportunity to enhance service development with cross-site working and experience opportunities.
There is currently no on-call commitment with this post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Teaching
The appointee will be expected to take part in the teaching commitment to the radiology trainees.
He/she will be expected to contribute to undergraduate medical student teaching as necessary and to play a full role in postgraduate medical education and the training of other relevant staff groups.
Audit
The post holder will be expected to participate in medical and clinical audit.
Clinical Governance
The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Clinical Governance structure developed by the Trust to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care. The Trust is committed to the development of medical staff through individual appraisal.This will include audit of personal clinical practice as well as involvement in departmental / specialty reviews, attention to continuing professional development, meeting the Royal College of Radiologists requirements, awareness of professional standards and the responsibility to undertake safe and ethical clinical practice.
Funding is available for approved study leave as defined in the Trust’s study leave policy.
Cross-cover for clinical duties with colleagues
The appointee will be expected to provide cross cover for his/her colleagues during periods of leave.
Research
The post holder will be expected to have some research experience and to contribute to research undertaken within the department and elsewhere in the Trust. They will also be expected to be aware of current research and development initiatives in relation to clinical service development.
Person specification
Clinical
Essential criteria- Member of the Royal College of Radiologists
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion within six months of the interview
- Full GMC registration
- Training and experience fulfilling the requirements of the RCR document on subspecialty training in Gynaecological and Paediatric Radiology
- A special interest in Gynaecological and Paediatric Radiology
- Proven ability to work under pressure
- Training in a recognised paediatric centre of excellence
- Publications and/or presentations related to Gynaecological and/or Paediatric Radiology
- Proven interest and experience in audit, research, and teaching
- Fellowship/membership of a medical/surgical college
Governance
Essential criteria- Ability to meet the requirements of Health Circular HC (88)9 concerning criminal background checks
- Commitment to personal professional development and clinical governance activities, including audit
- Attendance at a recognised management course
- Leadership skills
Non-clinical
Essential criteria- Proven commitment to teamwork with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to develop sub-speciality interests consistent with departmental and Trust aims
- Ability to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching

- Experience in departmental leadership or service development
