Funds Tax Manager

We’re recruiting for a Funds Tax Manager to join us. In this role you will work within Group Tax to support the Head of Asset Management Tax on public markets funds matters. Primary responsibilities include management of tax risk reclaims for public markets funds and life companies, including update/remediation of historic claims, management of advisors and custodians, dealing with tax authority queries, and engaging with operational teams.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting the Head of Asset Management Tax on public markets tax reclaim matters including:
  • Reclaims processes, remediation and oversight;
  • Oversight of custodians and service providers;
  • Thorough and clear responses to tax authorities;
  • Proactive monitoring and follow up with tax authorities;
  • Work with operational teams on accounting policies; and
  • Track detailed claims, accounting positions and repayments.
  • Building relationships with key contacts in the Asset Management division to ensure tax reclaim matters are considered appropriately.
  • Producing technical analysis and documentation on tax reclaims for use with business or boards.
  • Keeping business teams updated with key tax reclaim and withholding tax developments that are of relevance to them.
  • Over time and as required, supporting on various fund tax compliance & advisory responsibilities including:
  • Supporting fund operations teams on compliance matters including SD/SDRT matters and tax documentation;
  • Double tax treaty analysis for sponsored funds;
  • Management of treaty-based withholding tax relief and claims;
  • Management of tax agents, non-resident capital gains tax, financial transactions tax and other local tax compliance matters;
  • Investor reporting and fund documentation input and advice;
  • Supporting the broader international tax team on Pillar 2 compliance and elections for funds;
  • Providing up to date technical advice for UK and overseas tax changes; and working with the wider tax team as required.
  • Collaborating with other members of the Public Markets tax team to share knowledge and cover busy periods or time away from the office.

Who we're looking for:

  • Professional Accounting Qualification (e.g. ACA or ACCA) and/or Taxation qualification (e.g. CTA) with a solid level of post qualification tax experience within a large corporate or practice
  • Good understanding of UK, European and US credit and infrastructure fund structures commonly used.
  • Good understanding of tax implications, risks and efficiencies relevant to illiquid fund set ups.
  • Practical experience of private credit and infrastructure acquisition, holding and eventual disposal (especially income tax, corporation tax, transaction taxes, withholding tax, VAT).
  • Prioritisation, planning and organisation of multi task/person assignments.
  • Ability to make judgement calls where appropriate without referral to senior manager
  • Builds and develops strong relationships with staff, peers and other contacts within the business.
  • Experience of providing tax advice to fund management teams and be able to explain tax technical issues in a clear and concise way to non-tax experts.
