Music Teacher (Maternity Cover)

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES
Teaching and Learning:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging music lessons in line with the National Curriculum and school schemes of work.
- Teach music across Key Stages 2, 3, and 4, including preparing students for BTEC Music Practice.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEN.
- Encourage students’ musical development through practical, theoretical, and critical activities.
- Use a range of assessment methods to monitor and report on pupil progress.
Curriculum and Resources:
- Contribute to the planning and development of the music curriculum.
- Select and use appropriate resources, including music technology and instruments.
- Maintain and develop the school’s music resources and facilities.
Extra-Curricular and Enrichment:
- Lead or support extra-curricular music activities such as choirs, ensembles, or instrumental groups.
- Support and organise musical events, concerts, and school productions.
- Promote participation in music both within and beyond the classroom.
Pastoral and Professional Duties:
- Take responsibility for the pastoral care of a tutor group or class (if applicable).
- Communicate effectively with parents/carers regarding student progress.
- Contribute to the school’s ethos, values, and wider community.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and CPD activities.
- Maintain high standards of behaviour, punctuality, and attendance.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
- Experience teaching Music to students at Key Stages 3 & 4.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to inspire creativity and confidence in pupils of all backgrounds.
Desirable:
- Experience preparing pupils for BTEC Music Practice or equivalent qualifications.
- Degree in Music or a related discipline.
- Skills in set design, lighting, sound, or other theatre production elements.
- Familiarity with digital tools for music composition.
