Introduction

The Office of the Executive, headed by the Clerk of the House and the Director General (Operations), supports the Executive and facilitates the delivery of strategic priorities across the organisation.

The central Communications Office sits within the Office of the Executive and leads the communications strategy for the House of Commons. We work to improve access to - and understanding of - the work of the House of Commons, and to ensure that everyone who works here has the information they need to do their job.

Our impartial, challenging, and trusted communications and counsel are at the heart of the organisation, building understanding, connection, and trust with our diverse audiences.

It is a busy but supportive team, where you will have the opportunity to develop your communications skills while delivering high profile campaigns and projects, working collaboratively with internal, external and digital communications specialists across the House.

The Role

Are you a talented and creative internal communications expert, who knows how to use a range of channels effectively to reach different audiences?

The Internal Communications Manager will be responsible for developing effective communications tailored to a range of internal audiences, from staff based on the parliamentary estate, to Members of Parliament and their staff in Westminster and the constituency.

They will advise internal stakeholders on how internal communications can help deliver their objectives, while ensuring our communications are inclusive and aligned with the priorities set out in the House Administration strategy. They will be responsible for creating clear and compelling content, and manage a range of channels, products, and events - from our parliamentary intranet, ParliNet, to regular newsletters, staff Town Halls, digital screens, and posters.

We are looking for a confident and effective communicator, with excellent written skills and strong attention to detail. Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Work closely with teams across the House of Commons Administration and joint departments to plan, implement and evaluate insight-driven communications which support organisational priorities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, identifying communications risks and opportunities, informed by an awareness of current affairs, the news agenda, and the business of the House.
  • Write, edit, and publish high-quality accessible and engaging content tailored to a range of audiences and on behalf of senior stakeholders.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to turn complex information into clear and compelling messaging tailored to a range of different audiences.
  • Experience of planning, implementing, and evaluating insight-driven communication campaigns using a range of tactics and channels.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high quality work to tight deadlines, while taking responsibility for resolving issues.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, effective at negotiating with and influencing colleagues, including senior leaders.
  • Good political awareness, news sense and understanding of reputational risk, with a commitment to impartiality.
  • The ability to work collaboratively, whilst upholding the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
