Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified ambitious and motivated individual to join our highly skilled and friendly team of radiographers, delivering excellent patient care at Barts Health NHS Trust.

These band 7 radiographer positions will be based at The Royal London Hospital site of Barts Health which is located in the historical, vibrant and diverse east end of London. The position will be to assist in the clinical delivery and supervision within Core Services and CT at The Royal London Hospital.

The Royal London Hospital is home to the London Air Ambulance. It is one of the capital’s leading trauma and stroke centres and houses one of the largest children’s hospitals in the UK. Mile End Hospital is undergoing an exciting transformation to become a community diagnostic and early diagnosis centre.

The imaging department at both hospitals has state of the art equipment throughout and provides a varied rotation through different modalities and specialities.

As a major teaching hospital, we pride ourselves on our commitment to career and professional development including mentorship, radiographer reporting, radiographer led line insertions in Interventional Radiology, sonographer training and sonographer ACP.

Main duties of the job

Working within a multi-disciplinary team the post-holder will contribute to the safe and effective running of the imaging department. They will be an expert in their field of clinical practice and will be able to perform a wide range of x-ray examinations to a high standard.
The post holder will be required to rotate through all areas of Core Services and CT and they will participate in the delivery of a 24/7, 365 service via 12 hour working days. This is a leadership role and the post holder will offer supervision to band 5 and 6 radiographers, assistant practitioners, imaging assistants, students/apprentices and visitors to the imaging department, they will be required to deputise for the modality lead and role model professional behaviours.
The post holder will ensure patient flow in the trust by actively managing the flow of emergency and in-patients to ensure same day imaging. The post holder will be key in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and experience. The post holder at all times will demonstrate a high level of professionalism and act in accordance with the HCPC standards of proficiency.

Furthermore, they are expected to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with other staff members characterized by trust, mutual respect and open, honest communication.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers, or equivalents
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • Evidence of career-long commitment to CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Student Clinical Assessors Course
  • College of Radiographers accredited IV cannulation course
  • Postgraduate study in a relevant area

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge of general imaging and CT techniques
  • Able to work unsupervised
  • Awareness of clinical governance issues in relation to patient care
  • Understanding of factors affecting service throughput and quality
  • Completion of preceptorship
  • Experience of on-call and out of hours roster
  • Leadership and mentoring experience
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience as Band 7 radiographer.
  • Experience of training staff and students
  • Demonstrates ongoing CPD.
  • CT Colonoscopy experience

Knowledge/Skills

Essential criteria
  • Clinical and technical expert in plain film and CT imaging
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to teach and mentor students, more junior staff and new members of staff.
  • Ability to cope with work pressures and manage time effectively
  • Ability to cope with conflict and complaints at local level commensurate with Trust policies
  • Ability to make prompt decisions based on knowledge, experience and circumstances
  • Ability to work using own initiative but also to know when to seek assistance and guidance
  • Basic computer and keyboard skills.
  • Keep all records up to date in a clear, accurate and concise manner on a day-to-day basis
  • Self-motivated with an ability to motivate others
  • Able to work flexibly based on needs of service.
Desirable criteria
  • Intermediate IT skills.
