Job overview

Special Care Baby Unit is a 12 bedded unit and cares for babies from 30 weeks gestational age 24 hours a day.

This post is predominantly night shift working with occasional day time cover for clinics, unit cover, and attendance at training and development sessions.

The role is to provide high standards of care to patients accessing our services. You will need to embrace our trust values, demonstrate excellent communication skills, with a flexible approach to your work.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to provide high quality care and support for the babies and their families. This includes working alongside a registered nurse to provide the basic needs for babies and their families on the unit. You will also be expected communicate effectively with the nursing and multi-disciplinary team and attend training required for this role to ensure that babies and their families are receiving high quality care.

This post is predominantly nightshift however, you will be expected to do the occasional day shift to assist with tongue tie clinic and attend training sessions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Working alongside a registered nurse to provide the basic needs for babies on the unit including feeding and hygiene needs. You will also be expected to support the nursing team and communicate with the MDT and families. You will also be expected to offer breastfeeding support and advice, assist with admission including putting babies onto Pas, assist with discharge preparation and general housekeeping duties including stocking up, cleaning and ordering supplies.

Our tongue tie clinic is expanding therefore, you will be expected to be cover the tongue tie clinic and support the tongue tie practitioners. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of care and related procedures, clinical observations, relevant legislation
  • Completion of a competency-based programme or equivalent relevant experience
  • Level 3 qualification in a healthcare related subject or a portfolio of equivalent demonstrable experience

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous care experience in a health or social care setting
