What skills and experience we're looking for

The Studio is recruiting a temporary Full Time Support Coach for ASC working term time only (Maternity cover).

Contract: Full time, term time, Temporary (Maternity Cover). Expected employment dates 06/01/2025 – 04/04/2025.

Salary: NJC Point 5 £23,500 pro rata. Closing Date: 11:59pm Sunday 20th October 2024.

Opened in September 2013, The Studio Liverpool is a school for 14-19 year olds focused on the creative and digital technology sectors. The Studio empowers students to make a positive impact on the world through an innovative use of digital technology and is a launchpad for students’ careers in emerging areas of the creative and digital sectors.

Housed in a state-of-the- art building in the Baltic Triangle area of Liverpool, The Studio looks, feels and is different in the way it shapes learning, and creates its own unique culture of excellence through project based and technology-led learning.

As we grow, there are likely to be many opportunities for career progression both at The Studio and through the Northern Schools Trust.

As a Support Coach you will work with individuals and groups of students to remove obstacles to learning and develop skills they need to achieve. Working with the Director of KS4, SENDCO, teaching staff and outreach service staff, you will put together packages of support for students that improve their achievement by meeting their learning needs.
You will develop students’ emotional intelligence, relationship skills and resilience to prepare them for their next steps. You will use your expertise to support the learning needs of our ASC (Autistic Spectrum Condition) students in addition to all other students.

You will have had experience in 1:1 SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) support for young people with particular emphasis on an understanding of the struggles ASC students face.

Key roles across the team include:

  • To coach ASC students to identify and remove obstacles to learning and achievement
  • To identify and implement strategies for ASC students that help them learn more effectively
  • To identify gaps in learning and implement strategies with students to reduce these
  • To use data to identify, organise and implement effective interventions that improve students learning
  • To assist the SENDCo by contributing to the copy for administrative documentation
  • To build excellent relationships with students and model this for others
  • To support students to develop effective organisational and learning skills
  • To liaise with parents to ensure alignment of home/school expectations
  • To work with outreach organisations and other partners to develop packages of support for students
  • To work with groups of students within the classroom to support learning across a range of subjects especially Maths and English
  • To disseminate support strategies to teaching staff and coaches
  • To run 1:1 SEMH support sessions with ASC students and any other students with SEND challenges including students who struggle with gender identity transition

How is the Studio Different?

A Studio School is a new kind of school for 14 to 19 year olds of all abilities. They have been started to help close the gap between what young people need to succeed in life and the skills and knowledge that the current education system provides.

Studio Schools use the latest ways of learning based on real world enterprise projects and real work.

  • The school day runs from 9:00am to 4:00pm for students and 8:45 to 5:00 for staff
  • Staff are trained as professional coaches and use this to coach individuals and groups of students
  • Studio Schools are small with a maximum of 300 students (75 in each year group)
  • Students follow familiar GCSE, BTEC and AS/A Level subjects including the core subjects of English, Maths and Science through carefully designed and highly demanding Project Based Learning
  • Project Based Learning is a key feature of the Studio with different subject areas collaborating to devise, deliver and assess project and map their curricula to them. There are also discrete lessons for most subject areas.
  • Curriculum content is determined and shaped in partnership with employers and universities
