Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Trust-grade Dental Core Trainee (DCT) to join the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. The post will initially run until September 2nd, 2025, with the likely option to extend for a further year.
You must hold a DBS or equivalent, be fully registered or eligible for temporary registration with the GDC, and have a minimum of one year’s experience in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery.
The successful candidate would be expected to take part in Clinical Governance activities, training and teaching. The Trust can also provide support for doctors wishing to train via CESR pathway.
This is a 40 hours a week post with a 1:6 non-resident first on weekend and 1:5 weekdays on call (either Friday 24hrs or Saturday & Sunday 48 hrs). However, LTFT hours would be considered.
Main duties of the job
The Maxillofacial Unit provides the full range of OMFS services including Orthognathic Surgery, Trauma, Salivary Gland Surgery and Surgical Dermatology (with the exception of Reconstructive Oncology, Cleft Lip and Palate and Craniofacial Surgery).
The post holder will undertake a number of clinical sessions per week in Peterborough (dependent upon the service needs) divided between new referral clinics, follow up clinics, supervised treatments under local anaesthetic and general anaesthetic along with independent local anaesthetic lists under the supervision of four Oral and Maxillofacial Consultants.

The integrated team delivers the full range of Oral and Maxillofacial services (with the exception of reconstructive oncology, cleft lip and palate and craniofacial surgery) at the Peterborough City Hospital.
There is a 1:6 non-resident first on weekend on call (either Friday 24hrs or Saturday & Sunday 48 hrs). With this post an on-call room in the hospital residences is available to use while on call.
Person specification
Education, qualifications and special training
Essential criteria- BDS or MBBS (or equivalent)
- Full registration with General Council or General Medical Council
- MFDS, MJDF or equivalent
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria- Clinical history and examination
- Understands the need for and appreciates the role of audit and clinical governance in clinical practice
- Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
- Keeps professional knowledge and skills up to date
- Ability to teach and supervise Undergraduate Medical & Dental Students
Experience
Essential criteria- Ability to operate and work independently whilst being aware of own limitations and know when to consult senior colleagues
- Previous experience of work within Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
