The Neurology Service ise seekig three Clinical Fellows to join the service.
The Clinical Fellow Neurology positions would be ideal for motivated, enthusiastic candidates wanting to gain experience in Sub-specialty Neurology in a regional neuroscience centre.
The Neurology Department provides comprehensive adult neurological care for both emergency and elective work. This includes an inpatient Neurology ward (Charing Cross), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), a planned Neurological Treatment Unit (NTU), an Acute Neurology service, a wide range of sub-speciality outpatient clinics and a number of Multi-disciplinary team meetings.
This a large department with over 40 Consultant Neurologists linked to Imperial (based at Charing Cross, St. Mary’s or Hammersmith Hospitals), many with clinical duties at allied District General Hospitals and/or research commitments within academic departments at Imperial College.
The Neurology department is complemented by the Hyperacute Stroke Unit, Neurosurgery Unit, Neuroradiology Department (with access to CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and interventional neuroradiology) and Neurophysiology Department..
The postholder will be expected to participate in the oncall rota
Main duties of the job
The post will be full time for twelve months and applications from both pre and post CCT applicants will be considered. Candidates would ideally have a subspecialist interest in one of the following subspecialties: neuroinflammatory disorders, epilepsy, movement disorders or disorders of cognition. As Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has Services across multiple sites, the post-holders may be required to work at a differing sites on certain days of the week. The post-holders will be expected to:
- Contribute to the care of neurology inpatients, and the acute neurology liaison service.
- Participate in the on-call rota, which includes neurology and resident stroke thrombolysis/thrombectomy duties.
- Attend/deliver sub-specialty outpatient clinics.
- Attend subspecialty multidisciplinary team meetings and neuroradiology meetings.
- Assist with triaging of referrals into subspecialty clinics.
- Attend the weekly clinical and academic meetings.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement projects and clinical research where applicable.
- Involvement in teaching of resident doctors and medical students.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This post would be ideal for a motivated, enthusiastic candidate wanting to gain experience within Neurology
o To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
o To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities.
o To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
o Maintain current knowledge of Neurology, intervention and related areas appropriate to performing these duties.
o To maintain and participate in a recognised programme of continued medical education and professional development
The postholder will be required to work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas:
o Clinical efficiency e.g. LOS reductions, reducing cancelled operations and DNA rates.
o Quality of outcomes e.g. infection control targets, reducing re-admission rates
o Operational efficiency e.g. day-case rates, waiting list activity and demand management.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Appropriate Royal College Membership (MRCP) or equivalent
- An appropriate higher degree (e.g. MD or PhD)
Eligibility
Essential criteria- • Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Inclusion on the specialist register for neurology GMC
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria- • Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties
- • Neurology SpR level experience
- • Venepuncture, IV lines
- • Knowledge of the NHS models of Acute Neurology and SDEC
- Epilepsy experience
Language Skills
Essential criteria- Fluent English with evidence provided where necessary
Clinical Skills
Essential criteria- • Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- • Awareness of the basics of managing neurological disease
- • Able to demonstrate proficiency in a range of medical procedures as an indication of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Evidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in-patients through continuous work-based assessments, portfolio evidence, including log book documentation if applicable
- • Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate
- Demonstrate current ALS certification or equivalent
- Evidence of training/competency
- Ability to function as a competent independent neurologist
- Knowledge of patient management systems like Cerner
- Clinical Audit and/or Quality Improvement
