Consultant Psychiatrist – Intellectual Disability, Pennine Lancashire (10PA)
We are seeking to recruit a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist to work as part of the Community Intellectual Disability teams in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale (BPR) and Hyndburn/Ribble Valley (HRV). The post is full time (10 PAs). This is a newly created post which will work alongside and be supported by the Specialist Doctor working across Pennine but mainly based in Blackburn.
There is no On Call commitment for this post.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have the following important clinical responsibilities:
- Assessment and treatment of people with learning disabilities with additional mental health difficulties, including mental illness, autism, challenging behaviour and forensic needs, who are referred to the learning disability service.
- Assessment of patients referred to the service at service users’ homes and in clinic.
- Advice and consultancy where appropriate to the Community Learning Disability Team and other colleagues.
- Support, including supervision where appropriate to non-medical prescribing colleagues, including the nurse prescribers.
Applicants should hold full GMC registration and be included on the Specialist register of the GMC or they should be eligible for entry to the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date.
It is a requirement that applicants are Section 12 Approved at the time of commencing employment and have or are eligible to have Approved Clinician Status.
Remuneration will be as set out in the terms of the New Consultant Contract according to previous experience.

Essential criteria- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration and Licence to Practise
- On GMC Specialist Register or eligible within 6 months of interview
