Job overview

The Specialist Psychotherapist team offers psychotherapy to a a diverse population including individuals with a diagnosis of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), and/or Epilepsy.

The successful applicant would be joining a well established team that have a track record of working collaboratively and supportively to achieve improvement in symptoms and quality of life.

The successful applicant would be expected to manage a clinical psychotherapy caseload, as well as contribute to discussion about wider service delivery and improvement with opportunities to engage in local and national research into this specialist area.

Main duties of the job
  • To establish/maintain a psychotherapy service for patients with functional neurological symptoms or psychological difficulties linked to other neurological conditions such as epilepsy.
  • To offer a front-line psychotherapy service for neurology patients, delivering psychotherapy to meet the diverse needs of service users.
  • Deliver trauma informed psychotherapy when appropriate.
  • To provide a versatile service, responding positively to individual needs including language, nationality, ethnicity, sexuality, learning ability, communication style, mental health, gender identification, physical health conditions.
  • To develop understanding and promote awareness within a defined catchment area and the broader medical community of the interaction between psychological and physical dimensions of neurological illness.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional qualification in Psychotherapy to post-graduate diploma level with evidence of working towards Masters degree in psychotherapy
  • Current full professional registration with BACP, BABCP or UKCP
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited membership of BACP, BABCP or UKCP

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience of providing trauma informed psychotherapy.
  • Clinical experience of working with diversity in psychotherapy.
  • Clinical experience of working with a range of communication needs in psychotherapy.
  • A proven interest in the specialist area of linking the mind and body
  • Experience/training in providing telephone/video psychotherapy
  • Experience and/or training in using a range of IT packages
Desirable criteria
  • Post qualification experience working with the mind body link.
  • Able to use a range of psychotherapeutic approaches to work with this very diverse group.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with other services such as mental health services, Health services, Voluntary and Charity Sector organisations, Primary Care services e.g. GP’s, IAPT.
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision

Further Training

Essential criteria
  • Trauma informed psychotherapy training
  • Evidence of ongoing Continued Professional Development training.
Desirable criteria
  • Training in attachment theory/therapy

Special Skills/Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capable of working autonomously
  • Able to work well in a team.
Desirable criteria
  • Audit and research skills in psychotherapy related projects

Other Factors

Essential criteria
  • Willingness and ability to work remotely (from home) and from regional clinic settings when possible
Desirable criteria
  • Car driver/owner
