An exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist who wishes to develop specialist skills in Paediatrics within a supportive team. We are looking for a creative, friendly, and enthusiastic OT to join our established Children’s Team.
You will sit within a dynamic multi professional health team working in an integrated approach with education and social care. We are located near Enfield Town, with easy commuter links from central London/-Hertfordshire.
Previous experience of working as a children’s Occupational Therapist is essential for this post. Main duties
Your job will be to provide specialised Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to children with varying needs in community settings, clinic, CDT, and schools, providing expertise within a specialist area. You will work alongside the MDT on integrated pathways.
This is a 12-month contract to cover secondment.

Main duties of the job
To manage a caseload of children and young people with a range of needs including those with complex disabilities, providing occupationally focused assessment and intervention.
To act as an expert advisor and practitioner in Children’s OT contributing to differential diagnoses, provision of highly specialist advice and intervention for a client group with complex physical, social, mental health and cognitive disabilities.
To set occupationally focused intervention goals with children and/or their parents/carers that are family centred and agreed by the child and/or their parents/carers. To set and maintain high standards of clinical practice, which is evidence based, and includes outcome measures to monitor achievement of person-centred goals.
- To demonstrate the ability to analyse the interplay of the child, environment and activity when assessing the child’s level of functioning and identifying appropriate strategies and intervention to facilitate and enhance participation in self-care, school, and play/leisure.
To devise and manage a specialised treatment plan individual to a child’s presenting condition through occupationally focused intervention, equipment provision (as appropriate), parental support & training, provision of hand splints, advice & strategies and programmes.
To form productive relationships with parents/carers who may be under stress.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To work with the clinical lead to monitor referrals, caseloads, protocols, and pathways within specialist area.
To ensure the efficient organisation of the service and lead project working groups aimed at achieving team objectives particularly those relating to clinical specialism involving OT colleagues and other professionals.
To manage child protection concerns promptly and sensitively according to Departmental/Trust guidelines.
To advise line manager on issues of service delivery including shortfall, service pressure within clinical specialism.
To manage initial complaints sensitively, avoiding escalation where possible and report to Line Manager
To provide line management/clinical supervision to more junior Occupational Therapists and contribute to their Personal Development Plans (PDPs) and appraisals.
To monitor day-to-day activities of junior staff where applicable.
To provide clinical education and training, including fieldwork placements to OT students.
To participate in the recruitment of junior staff and assistants, participate in induction of new members of the multi-disciplinary team, leading induction within specialist clinical area.
To be responsible for the security, care and maintenance of specified equipment ensuring standards of infection control and safety are maintained.
To demonstrate a working knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance and their application to professional practice.
To assist the operational Lead with the inventory/ordering of items essential to the running of the department and clinical work.
To exercise good personal time management, punctuality, and consistent reliable attendance
To evaluate use of own time in line with priorities and time frames for assessment, report writing etc.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria- • Dip. COT or BSc OT or international equivalent
- HCPC registered Occupational Therapist
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development
- • Member of BAOT
- Manual Handling
- C.P.R. • Fieldwork Education Certificate
- Relevant courses and/or experience equivalent to Master’s level
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria- EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
- Extensive postgraduate clinical experience of Occupational Therapy.
- Extensive relative experience and practise in Childrens Occupational Therapy.
- Good knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy
- A good understanding of the importance of evidence base practice and how it applies to clinical practice
- Sound knowledge of child development and childhood occupations
- Experience of family centred practice and goal setting with families
- Specialist knowledge & application of OT Assessments (Standardised and Non-Standardised) & Interventions relevant to client group.
- Knowledge of evidence-based treatment approaches relevant to clinical area (e.g.
- Understanding and practical experience of using outcome measures
- Extensive experience of working within a Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT)
- Experience of service development.
- Ability to incorporate principles of Clinical Governance into day to day workload.
