Policy & service development: To be responsible for the education and development of all Pharmacy staff in practice supporting on-the-job training and practice development. To support the Dispensary managers with pharmacy staff inductions and help to coordinate workflows & capacity.
To work with the Patient Services Team to develop and maintain orientation packages for new staff and be responsible for their orientation to the dispensary and department. To support with reviewing and writing Patient Services SOPs as required.
To lead the continuing education, training and professional development of staff continuously promoting the acquisition of new skills, knowledge and competence in Patient Services and the wider department. To liaise with the Patient Services Team to identify how best training and development can be utilised to meet service needs and manage risk.
To contribute to an environment in which effective practice is fostered, implemented, evaluated and disseminated through a range of approaches. To ensure all work carried is carried out in accordance with departmental policies and with due regard to good dispensing practices, cleanliness and tidiness.
To propose, contribute to, and participate in, pharmacy service developments and quality improvement projects in line with departmental and Trust priorities. To develop and maintain accurate training records and produce reports as required. To provide the Deputy Chief Pharmacist Operations with details of output, performance and activity at specified time intervals in the agreed format.
Staff management and training To be responsible for the management of Rotational Assistant Technical Officers in Patient Services and support Apprenticeship completion/ directly manage their enrolment onto NVQ L2/L3 and be their Work Training Supervisor to support course completion.
To work as Educational Supervisor (ES) and facilitate training for staff undertaking ACPT training as per departmental requirements. To work as a Practice Supervisor (PS) to support Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians and ensure there are sufficient supervisors to support them in their dispensary rotation, including carrying out observations and Multisource Feedback Forms.
To support the training and development of external students in the Dispensary, i.e. Project Search Interns, Work Experience Students, Mpharm students and others. To work collaboratively with the Education and Training team to ensure that all trainees objectives are met, and adequate practice supervision is provided when in Dispensary.
To participate in the recruitment and selection of pharmacy staff. To partake in Local Faculty Group (LFG) meetings and Pharmacy Technician Management (PTM) meetings to feedback on training and support departmental initiatives. To act as an autonomous professional practitioner and always behave in a manner that is professional, positive and polite.
To be a role model and maintain high standards of practice at all times. To identify and facilitate the training and development of pharmacy staff in line with service needs and personal development plans. To assess, review and give constructive feedback about Pharmacy practice and competencies of staff in Patient Services.
To provide education for other pharmacy staff related to a pharmacy practice and educational issues. To participate in education and training programmes to develop skills as part of a commitment to continuing professional development and the concept of lifelong learning and maintain a portfolio of practice.
To undertake CPD/ revalidation as required by the General Pharmaceutical Council. Research and development To develop, implement, monitor and evaluate policies and guidelines. To supervise other Pharmacy staff in undertaking audit projects. To be aware of research and developments in the field of Pharmacy practice and Patient Services.
To utilise and evaluate tools to audit education, training and professional practice within Pharmacy. To undertake own research and publish practice research in Pharmacy Training & Development. To present the results and outcomes of own research and audits locally, nationally or internationally as appropriate.
