As a Registered Midwife, you are personally accountable for development of your practice. Maintain and develop high standards of research-based midwifery care. Implement Trust policies and protocols utilising significant discretion to work within a set of defined parameters and ensure that all care is carried out within the agreed standard and policy.
Participate in up-dating and revising of policies and guidelines as appropriate. Liaise and maintain effective working relationships with hospital and community midwifery based staff as well as other professional groups. Liaise effectively with the Professional Midwifery Advocates and demonstrate an understanding of the role of their role.
Have awareness of the pressure and workload on professional colleagues and manage the existing resources as required on a daily basis. Actively promoting the implementation of service developments and quality initiatives to enhance service provision.
The post holder is aware and identifies concerns relating to child protection (Childrens Act, 1989) liaising with the Named Midwife for Child Protection and the multidisciplinary team. To show regard and respect for different ethnic, cultural and religious beliefs within the provision of all aspects of midwifery care.
The midwife will show an awareness and understanding of vulnerable adults at risk and the processes and support mechanisms available. This midwife will seek advice from the senior midwife in all instances Clinical Act as an autonomous practitioner in all areas of normal midwifery practice as guided by the Midwives Rules and Standards (2012).
This role encompasses the care given during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period. The post holder is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the total care to women/mothers and babies over a 24 hour period.
Give advice, care and support to women who lose or terminate their pregnancies for whatever reason and provide support and guidance for midwives who are less experienced in this aspect of midwifery care. Maintain competence in, manage and co-ordinate emergency procedures which require knowledge and expertise whilst awaiting medical assistance.
Record and report all adverse clinical risks utilising the appropriate incident reporting system and forms. Education Participate in the setting, maintaining and reviewing of standards of midwifery practice. Participate in the teaching and orientation of learners and new members of staff.
To provide the effective mentoring/associate mentoring and assessment of student midwives and ensure that appropriate records and reports on student progress are available to the relevant University. Disseminate professional and clinical knowledge to colleagues.
Encourage and develop innovation in practice. Ensure that appropriate health education is provided for women and their families making full use of available resources. Introducing new developments and practices as necessary. Participate in Trust mandatory training programmes, including MOMS.
