This full-time post is for a Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry (Specialist Grade), for a fixed term of 12 months. The appointment is with the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is based at Liverpool University Dental Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to have a high level of knowledge and expertise in the field of Paediatric Dentistry and should have an innovative approach to teaching, research and patient care.
The post holder will be expected to have flexibility within their job plan to support the paediatric service as a whole and to support the teaching and training of StR’s, DCT’s, DCP’s, Undergraduate and postgraduate dental students if required.
The post holder is expected to provide treatment under inhalation sedation, with potential to support intravenous sedation and general anaesthetic dependant on experience and service needs.
The post holder will be expected to conduct new patient and treatment activity, to help maintain the Departmental patient activity target and provide clinical cover as and when necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to work under the line management of the Speciality Leads and the Care Group Clinical Director.
The post-holder will participate in, and where required, lead departmental quality improvement projects.
The postholder will be expected to engage in their own continuing professional development and to provide continuing dental education for other staff.
All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their activity to that which is deemed to be within their competence.
Person specification
Attainments
Essential criteria- Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
- Inclusion on the GDC Specialist List in Paediatric Dentistry (or within 6 months of attainment)
- Membership in Paediatric Dentistry or equivalent
- Post graduate sedation qualification
- Research degree or equivalent
General
Essential criteria- Satisfactory pre-employment health screening
- Fully subscribed member of a recognised professional indemnity organisation
Experience and Training
Essential criteria- Possession of a certificate of accreditation or eligibility for CCST in Paediatric Dentistry (or within 6 months of attainment).
- Successful completion of a SAC approved 3 year training programme in Paediatric Dentistry
- Competence in behaviour management techniques and inhalation sedation
- Experience of delivering care under general anaesthesia.
- Experience in the management of dental trauma
- Experience of teaching at undergraduate level
- Experience of teaching at postgraduate level
- Experience working at specialist level in Paediatric Dentistry
Quality Improvement
Essential criteria- Evidence of active participation in clinical audit/service evaluations/quality improvement programmes
- Willingness to play a part in audit programmes at Trust and Regional level.
- National presentation of quality improvement projects
Management Ability
Essential criteria- Commitment to effective departmental management.
- Ability to participate as part of a clinical teaching team.
