To work with pre-16 students at the point of recruitment and for the duration of their time at college. Working closely with key curriculum areas to support these students with the skills and attributes required to allow them to successfully achieve their full potential and be ready for their progression.

To plan and deliver mentoring and pastoral support for pe-16 students in a professional way in order to remove barriers to learning in relation to behaviour, motivation, attendance, punctuality, aspirations and academic achievements.
  1. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
The duties and responsibilities in this position are inherently of a professional nature and are wide ranging. They include, but are not restricted to the following:
  • Support pre-16 students to reach their full potential through individualised and targeted support.
  • To aid all students to reflect on their skills and experience, inside and outside the curriculum and encourage them to develop new skills and abilities.
  • Monitor and promote excellent attendance, punctuality and conduct amongst all pre-16 students ensuring that this is monitored effectively with both the student and parents/guardians/schools being contacted immediately the student does not attend in order to promote progress. Keep Progression Coaches/Tutors informed so actions can be logged on their ILP.
  • To identify support needs, either learning or pastoral, especially where these are affecting the student’s ability to complete their studies successfully and make referrals as appropriate and maintain effective liaison with appropriate college staff to ensure support meets students’ needs.
  • Provide immediate and first line support to pre16 students who may be in crisis or whose behaviour may cause concern, referring to internal staff and external agencies as appropriate.
  • To support students through personal difficulties and to support their learning outside of teaching time where this is required, to ensure they are retained and achieve their learning goals.
  • To attend meetings with parents/guardians and where appropriate other outside agencies / providers eg schools.
  • Facilitate communication and organisation with internal staff and external agencies for pre-16 students with pastoral, health and other support needs (eg parents/carers, and staff including ALS, safeguarding, counselling together with outside agencies).
  • Assist with admissions, transition (with multi-agency working where appropriate), enrolment and induction/initial assessment.
  • Administration in relation to the service – keeping all records up to date and accurate on the designated system.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and participate in team/other meetings, including attendance at vocational course team meetings.
  • Comply with all College Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform such duties as required by the Corporation, commensurate with the grade of the post.
