We are seeking a passionate and creative Teacher of English to join our close-knit, dedicated team at Newhaven School, a specialist provision for students with additional needs. • A Flexible and Creative Curriculum: Our KS3 curriculum is designed to be flexible, allowing us to explore literature from all over the world. Teachers are encouraged to bring their own passions into the classroom, selecting books and resources that inspire both them and their students.
• AQA English Language at KS4: We focus on the AQA English Language qualification for KS4 students, allowing us to offer a broad selection of texts, develop students' critical thinking skills and promote Cultural Capital, rather than focusing on rote memorisation.
• Engaging Teaching Methods: We use a mix of media and films to bring learning to life, across all key stages, where film is used to spark interest and deepen understanding of characterisation and aspects of storytelling.
• Comprehensive Resources: Our department boasts a wide range of detailed schemes of work, with fully planned lessons ready to teach, enabling you to focus on engaging with the students and making a lasting impact.
• A Collaborative Team: Our English department consists of four experienced teachers, three of whom have been with us for over six years, including the HoD. We pride ourselves on working closely together, where each team member’s experience and ideas are valued and respected.

The Role

As an English Teacher, you will:

• Teach mixed ability classes, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
• Foster a love of literature and language, building meaningful relationships with students to help them succeed.
• Teach across our different provisions: the PRU, the Assessment Centre and NEST, all of which are located at the main Gardens site.
• Plan and deliver dynamic lessons using a variety of media and resources to cater to a wide range of learning styles.
• Contribute to the development of our flexible curriculum and support students in achieving their potential.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to share ideas, resources, and best practices in a supportive team environment.

Who We Are Looking For

This role would suit an experienced, creative teacher who:

• Has a passion for teaching English and enjoys introducing students to a wide range of literature.
• Ideally has experience working with students with SEN or a trauma-informed teaching background or is interested in developing skills and experience in these areas.
• Is able to build positive, lasting relationships with students, motivating them to engage with their studies and achieve their best.
• Can work collaboratively within a small, supportive team, sharing ideas and contributing to the department’s success.
