Salary (Grade 1): £12.00 per hourHours: 16 hours per week (part-time, permanent)
Working Pattern: 5 days a week, days are flexible but must include at least one day at the weekend, typical start time between 7.00am and 8.00am depending on needs of the business

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) is recruiting a part-time Ship Keeper (Cleaner) to join the Conservation Team working at our site on Maritime Avenue in Hartlepool. We would like you to work 5 days a week, days and hours per day are flexible but must include at least one day at the weekend.You would start your day between 7.00am and 8.00am depending on the needs of the business.
This is an exciting opportunity to be a vital part of the daily cleaning and care of HMS Trincomalee, contributing to the ship’s long-term conservation. The Ship Keeper will provide daily cleaning on the ship, to protect the historic interiors and the display spaces on board and to help maintain the highest standards of cleanliness.
Teamwork is a key part of this role to ensure that the NMRN’s historic vessels are maintained and operated to a high and safe standard.Key Opportunities
- To contribute to the cleaning and maintenance of HMS Trincomalee, a nationally and internationally important historic ship.
- To benefit from in-house learning on conservation theory and practice, such as integrated pest management.
- To gain practical experience working within a historic structure, using conservation-approved methods and materials.
Knowledge/Experience
Previous experience in cleaning and a flexible approach to working schedules along with a basic knowledge of Health and Safety.Experience of working in a museum or historic building would be an advantage but is not essential.
Highly motivated to manage own workload, singularly and within a team, and prioritising tasks according to need.
