Maintenance Technician

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to join our team in a busy manufacturing/production environment. This role is crucial for maintaining, repairing, and improving both production and facility equipment, ensuring compliance with current legislation, health & safety standards, and site maintenance systems.

As a Maintenance Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting production operations.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine equipment checks.
  • Diagnose faults and respond promptly to site breakdowns.
  • Perform reactive and proactive maintenance to minimise downtime.
  • Support production teams as required to meet operational demands.
  • Complete weekly site inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Carry out equipment installations and modifications in line with current regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene and food safety standards at all times.
  • Liaise with contractors and chaperone visitors when required.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping across work areas and workshops.
  • Monitor spare parts stock levels and report requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure clear communication and effective handovers between shifts.
  • Undertake any additional reasonable duties as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Relevant engineering qualification (minimum NVQ Level 2 or 3 / Engineering NC).
  • Electrical or mechanical bias (multi-skilled preferred).
  • Electrical competency (e.g., 18th Edition desirable).
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, food, or production environment.
  • Confident using hand and power tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • PLC and drive experience.
  • Plumbing or HVAC knowledge.
  • Ducting, pipework, or ventilation experience.
  • Metalwork and TIG welding (stainless steel) experience.
