Job overview

Due to an exciting opportunity to participate in the INITIATE research study, we are looking for either band 3 Generic Therapy assistant or a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner (AP) with an interest in research to join the Orthopaedic therapy team at Airedale. The post will be a static 15-month FTC to contribute to the parameters set out by the research study and supporting elements of the collection/analysing of data with support from research leads. The AP will be a member of the Orthopaedic therapy team and work alongside colleagues to provide a 7-day service and improve overall care we provide to Orthopaedic patients. The team offer:

Main duties of the job

The Post Holder will:

  • Manage a caseload delegated by clinical
  • Independently undertake basic assessments and interventions relevant to delegated caseload.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of programmes and patient’s progression making minor alterations in consultation with the Orthopaedic therapy team.
  • Support the Orthopaedic team with complex cases as required.
  • Work with team members to ensure the effective functioning of the Orthopaedic team
  • Work in partnership with patients, carers, the multi disciplinary team and wider statutory, private and voluntary sector services.
  • Participate in activities to improve the Orthopaedic Service.
  • Provide support to other team members and students.
  • Work flexibly according to patient and service needs

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good general level of education including GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C4 or above.
  • Relevant Foundation degree, or BTEC higher or QCF level V qualification in health and social care
  • Relevant BTEC, QCF or equivalent level III qualification in health and social care
Desirable criteria
  • 4 GCSEs Grade A - D
  • Courses with Relevance to the job e.g. equipment, dementia

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent, relevant experience of working in acute, mental health or other clinical support worker roles.
  • Experience of working with people with complex health needs
  • Experience of carrying out therapeutic interventions
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working
  • Experience of working independently
  • Experience in use of IT applications
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in therapy services.
  • Experience of project work
  • Experience of working shifts/ weekends
  • Experience of supervising and supporting others
  • Evidence of therapy competencies

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the impact illness and disability have on function
  • Knowledge of Discharge planning
  • Knowledge of the roles of other professionals and the principles of partnership working
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of relevant clinical assessments and treatments

Other

Essential criteria
  • Current UK Driving Licence
Desirable criteria
  • Access to own transport
