Your new role:
Southend Museums are looking to recruit a Visitor Engagement Officer in a temporary contact 30.50hrs per week.
This role is an exciting opportunity to work in the front of house team of Southend Museum Service, where you will be responsible for providing an excellent visitor experience, conveying the rich cultural heritage of our town.
By joining this team, you will be the face of the museum, providing the first point of contact, welcoming and engaging our visitors, providing tours, maintaining the buildings and invigilating and caring for our fantastic collections.
You will also be responsible for our onsite retail offer, actively encouraging donations and supporting fundraising initiatives, assisting colleagues in the running of learning and engagement sessions and helping to coordinate wedding ceremonies in our beautiful Grade 1 listed buildings
You need to be able start within a few weeks.
The working hours for this position are: Wednesday - Sunday 10:15am-17:15pm
The interview process will involve a presentation with the subject of local arts and culture.

What you'll need to succeed:
The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal communication skills, an ability to build rapport with visitors and confidence when speaking to groups and larger audiences.
You will need to be proactive, able to show confidence in decision making and able to collaborate and work well as part of a team. You will be organised, adaptable, flexible, reliable and confident. A good communicator who adapts their approach to meet the needs of our visitors, you will be comfortable engaging with people from all backgrounds, ensuring our heritage is accessible to everyone.An interest in local heritage and culture and experience in the museum sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
