An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered Occupational Therapist to lead our OT team in recently established Community rehabilitation enhanced support team (CREST). The service employs an innovative model to provide rehabilitative care to people with complex and severe mental health issues.

As such, this is in line with our programme of Community Mental Health Transformation aiming to transform and enhance the way we deliver our mental health services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist in our Community Rehabilitation Enhanced Support Team (CREST). As this is a recently developed initiative this will initially involve some input into the development of the service, including feeding into processes and procedures, and supporting with the recruitment of staff to the service.

OT specific developments will include ensuring the implementation of evidence based Occupational Therapy assessment tools and interventions.

On a day-to-day basis, the Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist will support patients through a needs-led, patient-centred approach to care. Each patient will have a bespoke care plan agreed at MDT, which the Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist will help agree and put into action.

Close collaboration with the patients care coordinator is essential.

The role will include supporting patients with developing their skills and relationships to enable them to live healthy, fulfilling lives. Examples of activities that might be undertaken could include home visits, social visits, or helping patients to engage in community activities including sports and social events.

The Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist will provide supervision and line management to junior members of the team, as well as deputising on occasion for the Service Lead.

  • A registered Occupational Therapist with recognised degree-level qualification and HCPC registration.
  • Experience of working with patients with complex rehabilitative needs.
  • Kindness, empathy and passion for supporting people to live independent, fulfilling lives

  • Collaborative working with teams and services.
  • Experience of working with people who experience Complex Psychosis, or evidence of the willingness and ability to quickly develop and apply skills in this area of practice

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons)/MSc in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant validated clinical courses accredited as equivalent to master’s level
  • Member of the RCOT
  • Leadership training

Continuous Professional Development

  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Willingness to undertake further training and development

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-qualification experience
  • Experience of clinical leadership
  • Experience of working with adults with mental health problems
  • Experience of individual and group Occupational Therapy interventions
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working
  • Supervision/Management of junior staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of leading a team or acting up in the leads absence
