Job overview

We are looking for a motivated individual who is organised, has good communication skills and is a team player. The work will involve supporting the dietitians who work on the adult wards at Northampton General Hospital. You will support referral management and triage, complete nutritional assessment of patients and review care plans put in place by the dietitian.

You will work closely with the dietitians and there will be an opportunity for you to support student and staff training in the MDT and become involved and dietetic promotions and campaigns.

Please note that sponsorship is not available for this part-time position as it does not meet the UKVI eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa.

Main duties of the job

Leading on the management of the referral for patients requiring dietetic intervention using the established referral process:

  • accepting the referral and when indicated communicating back to the referrer,
  • registering the patient onto the system and prioritising based on level of nutritional risk.

Clinical decision making without direct supervision is required but you will have access to advice and support from more senior staff.

Providing direct patient consultations under the supervision of the Dietitian:

  • screen new referrals and gather information for the Dietitian
  • review an established plan of care and discussing the effectiveness of the plan and any changes with the individual’s treatment plan and their related condition/illness with the care team.
  • support the dietitian in the discharge process, e.g. patients transitioning to the home enteral team

You will identify specific precautions or contraindications to the proposed interventions / treatments and take the appropriate action.

Supporting the department by ensuring stocks of oral nutritional supplements are available and within expiry date. This will entail communicating with nutritional companies and the hospital procurement to request products.

Inputting patient diet history records for computer dietary analysis, using knowledge of food portion sizes and calorific values to ensure accurate results are achieved. Store new foods into dietary analysis program for further use.
