An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Physiotherapist to join our Physiotherapy Outpatient Clinical Leadership Team to lead the neuro outpatient physiotherapy service.
We are looking for a physiotherapist with highly specialist physiotherapy skills and an established specialist interest in treating neurological conditions. We are looking for an individual who will be committed to leading and developing the neuro physiotherapy outpatient service.
As the neuro outpatient physiotherapy clinical lead you will have demonstrable leadership skills, service development experience and excellent communication and time management skills. We are looking for an excellent team player who is experienced, flexible, and has initiative to assist us in delivering high class patient centred care.
The post will include management of a clinical caseload at Southmead Hospital but could also include working at Cossham Hospital. In addition, it will involve managing a patient caseload within a neuro spasticity outpatient clinic at Southmead Hospital.
The role will include working over three days and although we will endeavour to be flexible on the days worked, these will be dependent on available clinical space.
Main duties of the job- To be responsible for the delivery of a high-quality physiotherapy service by self and others through caseload management, supervision and development of physiotherapy staff and students. Participation in operational management, modernisation and professional development of physiotherapy services.
- To be an autonomous physiotherapy practitioner performing advanced neurological physiotherapy assessment of patients including those with complex presentations and from this formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan.
- To take a lead role in the supervision, teaching and appraisal of junior clinicians, technical instructors and assistants, physiotherapy students (possibly including those at Masters level) where required.
- To be responsible for operational management and development of the neuro outpatient physiotherapy service.
- To supervise, initiate and participate in evidence-based projects and is responsible for implementing changes within the neuro outpatient physiotherapy service and setting and monitoring standards of practice
- To deputise for the Pathway Lead as required
- To disseminate information/advice from the Pathway Lead or Head of Service

Person specification
Education/Training/Qualifications
Essential criteria- Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registration
- Range of Postgraduate courses and education in neuro-disability including spasticity
- Range of Postgraduate courses and education in neuro-disability including spasticity
- Clinical Educators Training
- MSc or working towards M Level or equivalent experience
- MSc injection therapy module or completed/working towards ultrasound injection therapy competencies
- Completed or working towards non-medical prescribing qualification
- Appropriate managerial training
Work Experience
Essential criteria- Comprehensive post graduate physiotherapy experience in management of neurological conditions
- Experience of having supervised staff who are directly accountable to the post holder
- Experience in completing audit, service development and evidence-based projects
- Previous Band 7 experience
- Experience of managing an outpatient physiotherapy caseload
- Involvement in research in specialist neuro sciences/physiotherapy
- Evidence of presenting to MDT groups, undergraduate and postgraduate staff
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria- Specialist knowledge of evidenced based physiotherapy for neurological conditions
- Understanding of clinical governance and its implication for physiotherapy
- Knowledge of national guidelines and standards pertaining to specialist pathway and physiotherapy
- Awareness and understanding of NHS structure, current issues, and developments
- IT Skills – including hospital databases, word processing, excel, email and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent time management, prioritisation, and organisational skills

Essential criteria- Self-motivated with a clear vision of role / commitment to specialty
- Demonstrate professional independence
