We have an exciting opportunity to join our progressive Gastroenterology team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. You will support the delivery of the Faster 28 Day Dignosis, 62 day cancer standard as well as playing a pivotal role in the development of the Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Centre.

As such we are recruiting to expand our nurse led team with a number of Clinical Nurse Specialists into our service.

This is a pivotal role tasked with embedding a newly developing UGI and Lower STT pathway on the Basildon site and will explore all elements of your professional skills set.

You will be expected to work with our extensive multidisciplinary team whilst supporting patients and their relatives through their journey from referral to discharge or next steps, providing them with the highest quality healthcare and patient experience.

Main duties of the job

Provide a streamlined and efficient pathway to improve avoidable 2ww pathway delays across the MSE.

Work closely with the UGI CNS (diagnosed cancers) to ensure smooth and timely handover of patients with a cancer diagnosis.

Work with GP representatives to Improve 2WW referrals , undertake referral audits and continue support to ensure pathway resilience from primary care

Manage the oversight of STT Diagnostics, First test by day 7 (as per the national timed pathway) and CT same day with improved performance and leverage in pathway for cancer treatments to improve outcomes.

Reduction of late referrals – local referral criteria to ensure referrals are timely (alongside Inter Provide Transfer standard operating procedures of 28 day.

Professional qualification

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registration - 1st register
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • IT literate - demonstrated through work duties in application
Desirable criteria
  • Colorectal or Cancer post graduate course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Colorectal and/or cancer knowledge demonstrated in supporting information
  • Significant post-qaulification experience working in gastroenterology, acute medicine or cancer
Desirable criteria
  • Cancer Pathway experience
  • Application demonstrates knowledge of cancer access policy and FDS
