You’ll communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner with patients, relatives, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, working flexibly across a range of day and night shifts over 7 days a week .
Main duties of the job
Working under the supervision of Registered Midwives and within Trust guidelines and protocols, you’ll assist the Midwifery team in delivering the excellent patient care you would expect for yourself and your loved ones.
Working alongside the Midwifery team, you’ll assist in delivering patient focused care to mothers & babies in the Antenatal, Intrapartum & Postpartum periods.
You will support women with personal care needs, including mobilising, toileting, bathing, dressing & providing emotional care & support for families with the care of their baby.
Following on the job training and assessment, you’ll learn how to undertake a range of delegated, duties including undertaking & recording observations, breast feeding support & parent education.

If you are new to working in healthcare, you’ll be supported to develop yourself through our Support Worker Development Programme for Maternity Support Workers. The great news is, the completion of this Programme will give you the opportunity to progress into a Band 3 Maternity Support Worker role.
If you’re an experienced Maternity Support Worker seeking a new opportunity, you’ll undertake a skills analysis to ensure you meet the requirements of the role. If there are gaps in your knowledge, you’ll be supported to access relevant clinical modules to support your progression to a Band 3 post.
Evidence of prior learning will be reviewed & considered.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria- Holds National Care Certificate or be willing to undertake and complete within 12 weeks of starting
- Holds a level 3 Vocational Qualification (e.g. NVQ or Apprenticeship) in clinical health care OR able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skill and competency to undertake band 3 clinical skills (described in JD)
- Holds Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or education equivalent
