This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join a specialist multi-disciplinary team, providing holistic assessment and appropriate intervention to children and young people with gender incongruence and their families.

The Children and Young People’s Gender Service has been commissioned by NHS England to provide a service consistent with the recommendations and service specification following the Cass Review.

This post offers the opportunity to work across a variety of settings to provide a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service on an out-patient and outreach basis including community and school liaison, usually virtually but with some travel.

As part of the Team, the OT will provide specialist assessment and advice, consultation, liaison with families and local external agencies involved in the care of children and young people with gender incongruence and where appropriate other co-occurring conditions and to be a source of expertise within the multidisciplinary team.

We are now recruiting a team of Allied Health Professionals which will additionally include colleagues from Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy. The post holder will have the exciting chance to be part of building this innovative and evolving service in collaboration with colleagues from these allied disciplines and to provide line management and leadership both within CYPGS and to Occupational Therapists working in the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Provide a specialised Occupational Therapy service including assessment, treatment and management of children and young people with Gender Incongruence and co –occurring conditions. Co-occurring conditions may include some of the following: autism, ADHD, sensory integration disorder, dyspraxia, eating disorders including ARFID.

To be a core member of theCYP Gender Service, assisting in the development, planning and progression of service provision, working across and within traditional professional and organisational boundaries in hospital, education, and community settings.

To become a source of expertise and demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience in the highly skilled management of children Gender Incongruence and co-occurring conditions.

To provide specialist advice and clinical education to other members of the multi-disciplinary team, presenting at local, national and international meetings.

To support the wider Paediatric Occupational Therapy Team as required.
