1 Permanent post: 37.5h

Salary: £23,054

Main duties of the job

To work as part of Warehouse team within Estates & Facilities.

To be responsible for a comprehensive Warehouse service to all BSMHFT, SSL & others agreed including outside contracts where necessary, in order to maintain a high-quality continuous Service at all times.

Deliver & Collect Key elements as described in responsibilities, but these may change with SSL re-organisation

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

These will be operational at all Birmingham & Solihull Locations and other agreed locations and will follow all SSL/Trust policies, guidance notes, training and all e-learning training. Support other areas of the business as and when required to do so.

(These may change with the needs of the service/Summerhill Services requirements).
  • Health and Safety
  • Ensure that all lifting and manoeuvring of product is carried out in accordance with manual handling procedures
  • Operate in a safe manner complying with all health, safety and environmental requirements to ensure own and safety of others
  • Handle any hazardous materials in an appropriate manner
  • Keep areas of work clean and tidy to ensure operational efficiency
  • Individual Duties
  • Responsible for receiving, distributing and putting away of inventory across assigned areas
  • Responsible for distributing and transferring orders from the Bulk Store location to any requested location/s
  • Check for damaged or missing items
  • Store goods appropriately
  • Record wastage for all Top-Up lines
  • To help to maintain and contribute to producing data for statutory returns for the Transport & Logistics Department , PPE delivery & Collection, Warehouse stock levels ERIC Returns
  • Communicate issues regarding stock to the Supervisor
  • Pick and pack orders for dispatch
  • Move stock around either by hand, using lifting equipment
  • Manage key working relationships with clinical staff to ensure effective communication regarding Inventory Ensure delivery of materials to production lines in accordance with production standards
  • Keep accurate stock records and able to input data regarding stock and inventory into a computerised system
  • Participate and assist in stock takes, yearend counts and warehouse amendments as required.
  • Work out of hours as required by the Service Manager
  • Make recommendations to aid efficiency and add value
  • Balance the priorities of ever increasing demands on the service, within the resource constraints, whilst maintaining end-user confidence and satisfaction.
  • Support the Inventory Manager on call in the event of a major incident covering all Procurement and Supplies activities, ordering goods to meet emergency requirements.
  • Support the production and maintenance of the department’s business continuity and emergency preparedness plans.
  • Support Transport & Portering teams as and when required.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Literate with satisfactory level of general education GCSE/CSE Certificates.
  • NVQ2 Support Services or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of warehouse software systems
  • Formal manual handling training would be desirable Microsoft Office Skills training

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in working at a busy environment, standing and moving for prolonged times, with attention to detail and the ability to focus for a period of time.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to plan, organise own workload, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Basic Inventory Management and warehousing knowledge.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with other staff.
  • Knowledge of Receipt and Distribution
  • Demonstrate and promote high standards of quality customer care to both internal and external customers
Desirable criteria
  • Able to handle large, awkward shaped and heavy items/boxes and heavy items/boxes
  • Able to cover for supervisor
