We are looking for a dysphagia-trained SLT to join our team to work on with patients with H&N cancer as well as on acute wards! An interest and experience in H&N is expected. We're a large, friendly team with great CPD opportunities, and regular supervision.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide an efficient and high quality specialised speech & language therapy service for patients on the acute wards and to those with a Head and Neck (H&N) cancer diagnosis who may be inpatients or outpatients.
  • To supervise recently qualified speech & language therapists, assistants and students.
  • To participate in Continuing Professional Development, clinical audit and in service training.
  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their professional and clinical work, working to agreed national and professional standards

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Member of HCPC
  • Completion of post-graduate dysphagia competencies
Desirable criteria
  • Further relevant study
  • RCSLT membership
  • Participation in CENs

Knowledge / skills

Essential criteria
  • Advanced knowledge of acquired disorders of dysphagia and treatment approaches
  • Knowledge of communication disorders and treatment approaches
  • Ability to manage patients independently
  • Understanding of the roles of other health professionals and working as a multidisciplinary team
  • Analytical, problem-solving abilities
  • Negotiation Skills
  • Presentation Skills
  • Knowledge of treatment approaches applicable to people with H&N cancer
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to interpret videofluoroscopy examinations
  • Ability to perform Cervical Auscultation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Independent working with adults with a broad range of communication disorders and swallowing problems in an acute setting
  • Teamworking

  • Experience with a H&N cancer caseload
