Pay Rate: Up to £23.03 per hour PAYE depending on experience
Hours per week: 22.20 specific days and hours TBC
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 6-7 months

The successful candidate will work with the Council’s Economic Development and Communications teams to provide targeted business facing communications and engagement support that will enhance the Council’s relationship with local businesses and help to achieve the Council’s vision of One Cambridge Fair for All.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the development of a communications and engagement strategy for businesses and employers to coordinate engagement across council services, help to strengthen relationships, and build understanding of shared priorities, between businesses and the council.

Communications campaigns for the Council’s economic development function including engagement with local business audiences and promotion of the council’s work to support business, feeding into council-wide communications forward planning.
Produce written communications for business audiences for online and offline communications channels including the media, social media, residents’ magazine, internal publications and others.
Produce, commission and manage the development and deployment of digital communications products for use across online communications channels, supervising external suppliers to agreed specifications.
Analyse, measure and evaluate communications output and services and then research and provide recommendations on ways of improving impacts.
Lead on the creation and implementation of communications activity and materials for particular projects and programmes using a range of online and offline communications channels.

Abide by the national code of practice in local government communications and follow the principles set out in the Chartered Institute of Public Relations code of conduct for communications professionals.

Qualifications:

CIPR or CIM qualification or equivalent, or a strong communications, marketing or PR background with demonstrable practical experience desirable.

Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Proven, in depth experience of working in communications, marketing or PR for a sizeable organisation and of using the range of internal and external communications channels.
Experience of working with colleagues to develop key messages on particular matters and best way to communicate them.
Experience of writing and editing copy to a high standard for news releases, internal and external publications and online channels such as a website, intranet and social media, using plain English standards to demanding deadlines.
Experience of leading on specific communications matters, managing planned activity and working in a structured manner to deliver digital and non-digital communications products targeting different audiences.
Experience of providing media handling advice to colleagues and non-experts and working with others to formulate and agree responses to media enquiries that ensure the council is fairly represented.
Experience of working to demanding deadlines and of working in a flexible way, switching tasks and priorities as the situation demands.
Experience of managing external suppliers.
Experience of working on organisational transformation programmes.

Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite, Adobe Pro).
