Site Manager

apartmentNATIONAL TRUST placeWindsor calendar_month

We are looking for someone who has a passion for heritage and delivering an engaging visitor experience to attract a diverse audience. You will play an important role in helping visitors experience and understand the history of Runnymede and Ankerwycke: internationally significant both for being the site of the sealing of the Magna Carta, and for the stunning natural environment enjoyed by our local community.

Weekend working pattern c1 in 3.

What it's like to work here

Seen by many as the birthplace of modern democracy, this open landscape beside the Thames was witness to King John's historic sealing of the Magna Carta over 800 years ago. As well as a monument to the legacy of the Magna Carta, Runnymede hosts further memorials to John F.

Kennedy and the Commonwealth Air Forces, and a series of art installations, including unique works by Hew Locke and Mark Wallinger.

Within easy reach of the M25, our rangers look after stunning wildflower meadows, Langham Pond and ancient woodland (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) and the oldest tree in the National Trust's care, amongst other places. Our visitor experience teams welcome visitors to enjoy our tearoom, a picnic, take in the views, ride bikes along the riverbank, try a spot of fishing or walk dogs on one of our waymarked walks.

You will report into our Property Operations Manager and will be the key contact for Runnymede in the National Trust.

What you'll be doing

As site manager, you will have responsibility for the day-to-day management, visitor experience and essential compliance and maintenance tasks at this busy countryside site. You will work alongside a small property and ranger team, and will be the main point of contact for a large cohort of dedicated volunteers.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for planning and day to day management and operation of the site and for related activities; working with stakeholders to deliver events including Magna Carta celebrations and working in partnership with our local council to deliver a Junior Ranger scheme.

Who we're looking for

This is a significant role at a busy property, and we need someone who can take on the challenge to maintain the great reputation of this event. To deliver this role successfully, ideally you'll have:

  • significant operational management experience in a busy customer facing environment and/or at historic properties

  • leadership experience including good decision-making skills, positive attitude, accountability, organisation skills
  • strong communication skills including awareness of phenomenal customer service and experience of complaints handling
