About the role
As an Algar Air Field Maintenance Service Technician you’ll be proactive, with a committed and professional approach to your work. You’ll work well as part of a small team, but you’ll be equally happy, productive and motivated working on your own.
We are looking for a solid ‘all-rounder’ with a wide range of capabilities and experience, You’ll be able to multi-task and solve problems. You’ll approach every task with real attention to detail. And you’ll know what it takes to make clients happy, and deliver that level of service every day.
You must have had experience in a similar role working on and maintaining site equipment, plant and machinery.
This position is for a part/full time engineer depending on the candidate, subject to a six-month trial period.
Duties will include:- Breakdown diagnostics, repairs and maintenance, mainly at our clients’ sites across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire
- Maintaining our clients’ air compressors, mainly at their sites (training given)
- Carrying out preventative maintenance activities
- Installing pipework & ducting
- General on-site maintenance
- Working safely – you’ll have a comprehensive understanding of risk assessments and safe systems of work onsite
- Face-to-face liaison with customers
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Applying a logical, structured approach to your work

- A passion to learn and develop new skills
- A range of heavy engineering and manufacturing industry experience, ideally built on a strong mechanical engineering background
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English & Maths
- Clean/low points driving licence
- Knowledge of compressed air and pneumatics
- Self-motivation, with the ability to undertake training in additional skills
- Flexibility - normal working hours are 37.5 per week between 6am-6pm with out-of-hours, weekend and away work required infrequently
- Basic health & safety knowledge (ideally CSCS certified)
- A forklift truck/scissor lift/booms licence (ideally)
- A working knowledge of electrical/PLC systems would also be desirable.
