This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated physiotherapist to develop their clinical & leadership skills within a friendly, supportive and evolving Paediatric physiotherapy team based in Staffordshire. This post offers the chance to manage a mixed caseload of children & young people with neurological, developmental and some musculoskeletal conditions, across both town and rural locations.

The team have bases across Staffordshire, travel will be required based on service need. As a community team covering a large geographical area, access to a car for work purposes is essential.

You will have specialist knowledge and experience in one field of Paediatric Physiotherapy. The post holder will be part of the team providing wider assessment and intervention for children & young people with physical difficulties aged 0-19 years.

Clinical leadership will also be an important part of this role such as delivering clinical supervision and working on service development projects. We work in partnership with families and carers in a variety of settings including special and mainstream schools, patient’s homes & community clinics.

You will be expected to use and develop your skills using a variety of approaches, treatment modalities and to work closely with colleagues in other disciplines in order to provide a child-centred, holistic approach to care. You will also participate in the development of other staff and of the service.

Main duties of the job
  • To adhere to and apply the Health and Care Professions Council’s (HCPC) standards of proficiency and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) Code of Members’ Professional Values and Behaviour and all relevant guidance from the Partnership Trust.
  • To be professionally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work.
  • To assess new service user referrals and care/support needs. Assesses service users and formulates, develops, implements and evaluates programmes of treatment /care/support for individuals, families and carers and provides advice and support to others. The specialist care/support plans may include the following:

Promoting independence/self-management and maintaining safety

Increased functional ability

Improvement in physical health and wellbeing including mental health

Interventions in condition management

Management of specific diseases, diagnoses, life limiting and long term conditions.

Prevention and reducing of health inequalities

Case management/ treatment /care plans

Palliative and end of life care
  • To use expert knowledge and judgement to take into account the range of care/support packages and treatment options available. To consider each service user’s personal circumstances and preferences, and those of their families and carers in order to implement and adjust programmes of care and intervention.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust is committed to providing high quality care and offers staff learning and development opportunities in order to support them in achieving this goal. The paediatric Physiotherapy team continue to redesign services to improve quality and support innovative service delivery.

The paediatric physiotherapy service provides clinical placements for students from Keele University. Previous experience as a clinical educator is desirable.

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Registration with HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Masters qualification in relevant area that will support the delivery of the service
  • Further clinical study relevant to clinical practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 3 years or more qualified physiotherapy experience
Desirable criteria
  • Paediatric Physiotherapy experience
  • NHS experience
