Our Neuro Rehab Out Patient Team is looking for a part time (22.5 hours/week) Band 3 therapy support worker. You will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on many people’s lives through being part of their rehabilitation journey. You will support the multidisciplinary team in delivering personalised and goal centred out-patient rehabilitation programmes aimed at maximising recovery and quality of life.

An enthusiasm to work in neurological rehabilitation is essential. The successful candidate will have excellent time management skills, self-motivation and flexibility to meet the changing demands of the service.

We are looking for someone who has previous experience of working in a rehabilitation or care setting, who is enthusiastic and compassionate.

The successful candidate will have a passion for delivering patient centred care and a desire to support patients in maximising their independence.

The therapy support worker will implement rehabilitation plans designed for each patient according to their needs. You will work alongside occupational therapists, physiotherapists and the speech and language therapist in the delivery of rehabilitation for patients.

The team also comprises case managers and cognitive behavioural therapists. You will work with patients independently as well as alongside registered therapists in joint treatment sessions. You will work in the out-patient clinic, and also see patients in their own home or in the community depending on the goal and nature of the intervention.

The successful applicant will receive a comprehensive induction and regular supervision within a supportive and caring team, as well as being supported to learn and continuously develop through in-service training. You will actively participate in service improvement, training, supervision and appraisal to develop your skills and maximise your potential.

Therapies and Rehabilitation Services is one of the pathways within the Clinical Support Division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff who work together to deliver the high-quality care we aspire to.

Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists, and our other staff encompass professionals such as nurses, psychologists, administrative and clerical and support workers.

We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

Person specification

Physical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Physical ability to undertake manual and therapeutic handling of patients and/or equipment on a daily basis in a variety of environments
  • Basic computer skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of manual handling
  • Experience of NHS computer systems

Organising & Analysing

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of professional behaviour and confidentiality
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team
  • Problem solving skills
  • Evidence of organisation and prioritisation skills
Desirable criteria
  • Able to identify own learning needs

Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • Effective written, verbal and listening communications skills.
  • Can work independently or under direction of a variety of supervisors
  • Able to overcome barriers to communication

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience as a therapy or rehab assistant
  • Ability to effectively manage own case/work load, with support.
  • Experience of keeping written notes/records to record work undertaken
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with patients with neurological conditions/complex rehab needs
  • Understanding of MDT roles
  • Experience of facilitating group sessions

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE (A-C) English and Maths or equivalent
  • Willingness to undertake further training and learn new skills
  • Working towards or achieved NVQ level 3 or equivalent in health related subject.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
